One month had passed since the operation. The training hall had been nearly destroyed within the past hour. The floor had been soaked in water while the walls were scorched and looked like they had been bombarded for years. Devon swore he could see into the neighboring rooms. The first day they were able to connect with their new partners almost immediately and begin to wield their incredible power.

Doctor Seraph had separated their new 'partners' by class based on what they closely resembled. At least, that is what Devon had been told. His 'Dragon class' partner had remained silent the entire time and he could not feel its presence at all.

Rose had been paired with a Phoenix class creature  while Lucas had been paired with another Dragon class. Eune had an affinity for ice and had been paired with the spirit of a Lupus class. He would often go silent to converse with his new friend mentally. It took a few tries to snap him out of it to get him to focus but he performed quite well, freezing the room everyday.

Alyssa had been paired with an Aquatic Reptilian class to match her aquatic affinity. She seemed to get frustrated and annoyed by something whenever she used her powers. Eune said that her Hydra was always distracting her and not being particularly helpful. Her training sessions usually ended with a loud growl as she walked away from the soaked room.

Hydros was worried for Devon as he had yet to show any signs of connecting with his spirit. Every training session up until now had been rough for him. Everyone was able to easily connect with their spirits unlike him, who was having trouble just talking to his. It seemed to have gone mute since bonding with him. The only thing he had received was a string of terrifying nightmares that had plagued him over the past week.

Hydros watched from the observation room overlooking the training hall with Seraph, Solaris, and the rest of Devon's team. The four of them looked worriedly at their leader, Rose had her hands clasped together as though she was praying.

"We should stop this Doc." Hydros said. "Devon's exhausted, he won't be able to do anything with how he is now. It's been like this all week."

"We must push them to their limits in order to draw out their power. He must be able to overcome this obstacle." Seraph said, disappointment laced in his voice.

"Then let him rest!" Rose said. "He needs it!"

"If he does not tap into his power then I will label him a failure and have to move on." Seraph stated. "If you do not want that for your brother then you will stand by and watch!"

Rose recoiled at Seraph's sudden outburst and quietly watched her brother attempt to use his powers. Devon was slouched over, sweat trickled down his face. Ever since the operation, Devon's senses had felt like they were hyped up on some kind of drug. Everything was overwhelming for him, including his hearing. He did not know how, but he could hear everything up in the room. Everything from Seraph tapping away at his tablet to his sister's breathing.

Darkness danced at his vision as he fell to his knees. He tried pushing himself back up but his arms betrayed him and buckled underneath him. Even with his enhanced strength and stamina, he felt so weak. He could barely keep his eyes open and his arms felt like they were made out of jelly.

He weakly smacked his fist against the floor and glanced up at the windows of the observation room. He could hear Seraph sigh in disappointment before quietly telling Hydros to go collect him. Devon could no longer hold on to consciousness as he succumbed to the darkness.

...

Hours had passed and Devon still had yet to wake up. Rose sat by his side, holding his hand the entire time. Although Devon had been unconscious, it did not appear he was getting any kind of rest. Rose tried to calm him down, trying to tell him that she was there, that he was safe.
