Chapter 32

Alyssa climbed up into the turret mounted on the roof of their vehicle and cocked the charging handle of the weapon and started firing on the tail end of the convoy, destroying the small car in front of them.

Eune climbed partially out the window and swung his arm, freezing another car in a wall of ice. He pulled a single fire grenade launcher out from the vehicle and fired, blowing a massive hole in the side of a large transport truck.

"Keep it steady Rose! I'll get him!" Alyssa said, firing another burst into the truck.

"We need to take out the rear before they reach Lucas' location!" Rose yelled as Eune fired off another grenade, sending a car off the highway.

Alyssa fired another burst into a larger transport truck, its trailer slightly shaking side to side. It suddenly burst open from the inside and a large, metallic hand latched on to the edge of the hole.

Alyssa's eyes widened behind her helmet as a large, blocky drone climbed out of the trailer. Its arms and legs were long and rectangular while its body was blocky and square. Its head twitched and sparked as Alyssa realized one of her rounds hit its head. Its red eye scanned their vehicle and aimed its right arm at them.

Its hand morphed and shifted until a triangular shaped barrel took its place. The inside of the weapon glowed an ominous maroon and Alyssa slapped the roof of the car repeatedly with her hand.

"Evade! Evade! Evade!" She screamed.

Rose quickly turned to look at the drone before she hit the brakes as its weapon discharged. The blast tore through the median like magma, melting the concrete in a hot, red-white substance and cut a civilian's car in half and continued on into a skyscraper.

Eune quickly fired another grenade at its face and it was blown back slightly before Alyssa started to unload her turret into the drone. She only stopped when the barrels were glowing white hot from overheating.

"Did that get 'im?!"

The drone's three clawed hand shot out of the trailer like a ballista. Alyssa ducked as it tore through the turret like paper, sending scraps of metal into the next lane.

"Shit!" Alyssa yelled as she grabbed her own rifle. "How are we gonna take this thing out?!"

"Lucas should have stopped the front of the convoy by now!" Rose said. "We'll handle it for good once we stop!"

As if she was telling a fortune, the truck screeched to a halt and the drone clamped its feet down on the trailer. Rose slammed on the brakes and climbed out of the car, her rifle raised. Eune and Alyssa followed suit and aimed at the drone. The driver tried to get out but quickly had his head taken off as the drone swung its arm at the trio.

They all dodged out of the way as it climbed out of the trailer and to its full height. It easily towered over them and was kitted out with more weapons than they had thought.

"Rose?" Eune worriedly asked. "What do we do?"

Suddenly, Lucas' axe lodged itself it the side of its head and lurched to the side of the highway. Lucas launched himself into the air like a missile and crashed into the machine's shoulder. He grabbed his axe with his left hand as he smashed his right into its eye.

He ripped its eye from its socket and yanked his axe free, cutting its head in half. He jumped off it and landed on his feet, cracking the pavement beneath him.

"Woo!" He cheered as he turned to them. "I am having the time of my life right now!"

Rose shook her head in disbelief as Eune and Alyssa just sighed.

"What about Slavore?" Rose asked. "Did you get him?"

"Hmm? Nah, Devon's chasing after him right now." He swung his axe over his shoulder as he was admiring the robotic eye in his hand.

"What?! Then we need to go help him!" She exclaimed.

"Well....see, about that." Lucas threw the eye over his shoulder. "I may have saw the giant robot you were fighting and I may have raced past the majority of Slavore's men just to get in on the action. Hehe."

"Great! Just great Lucas." Alyssa groaned.

"What? Now we can fight them together!" He said cheerfully.

"Of course." Eune sighed. "Let's get this over with."

The three raised their rifles as Lucas readied his axe. Through the smoke and debris, the remnants of Slavore's men rushed them with a flurry of blades and bullets.

"See?!" Lucas said excitedly. "Now we all get to have fun! Haha!"

And he charged, his weapon alive with flames.
