Doctor Seraph pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing heavily. The only light in his office came from the hologram floating above him. The diagram of the human body slowly spun in a circle, allowing him to see every internal organ from all sides. A knock on his door barely caught his attention.
"Yes?" He asked, his voice laced with annoyance. The door opened revealing Solaris. He strode into the room, his hands clasped behind him.
"You need your rest Doctor. It's been three days and you have not stepped out of this room. The smell is starting to become bothersome." Solaris cringed as he inhaled.
"Yes yes, I'll rest when I'm done." Seraph waved him off. His eyes were glued to the hologram, never letting his gaze even come close to Solaris'.
"Well, I figured you would like to know that the children have been progressing, albeit slowly, but they are. Desir tells me that they are excelling in their magic studies and even more so in their performance."
Seraph tore himself away from his work to face him. His eyebrow quirked in curiosity. "Really? How well are they doing?" He leaned against his desk, crossing his arms.
"From what she's said, they are already at the same skill level as that of an apprentice."
"Really? That's incredible, but what could cause that? The surgery? No, not yet at least." Seraph muttered to himself, rubbing his chin. "Anything else?"
Solaris gave him a questioning look before continuing. "As far as their basic training has been going, they are performing at their age group. Which is fine since they are still young. We are not pushing them beyond their physical limits yet so there are no problems there." Seraph smiled at him, stretching as he stood up. "Good, let me know if anything else changes with their performance. I'm gonna take a shower."
"Of course Doctor."
He yawned as he walked down the hallway, the only sound being the echo of his footsteps. He cocked an eyebrow as the sound of glass shattering snatched his attention from a room at the far end of the hall. He jogged into the room, noting the open door. He grabbed an empty beaker sitting on the countertop to his left, flicking the lights on as he did so.
Large tubes stood tall on the far side of the room, each dwarfing Seraph by a good five feet. A blueish liquid bubbled periodically within them. He cautiously walked around each, checking over their diagnostics on a small tablet at the base of each. A low, guttural, growl emanated from the center most tube. His foot slid through a mess of glass and he rested his hand upon the tube.
"So, I'm guessing you caused this huh?" He asked it. The liquid swirled a bit before a monstrous eye stared back at him. It's dark blue coloring stood out from the liquid like a dark storm in the sky. "Hehe, you weren't too happy when we stuck you in there were ya? Well, I'm happy to say we found you a partner finally. So, you won't be in there for too much longer my friend."
It did nothing but growl again before slamming into the glass. The recoil knocked it back like someone had shoved it over. Seraph chuckled as it tried to break the glass again and again, each time it was sent crashing into the other side of the tube. Seraph set the beaker down and leaned against the table behind him, watching it writhe and writhe in its confinement.
"Why do you continue to struggle in vain, Lady Dragon? You don't possess a physical body anymore. That tube is designed to keep all of you contained and sedated whenever we wish. You won't be breaking out anytime soon." Seraph said, walking up to the glass. He flicked it a few times, trying to elicit another response from it. It did nothing but glare at him with the fury of a hurricane tearing apart a costal city.
"Hmph, I expect a great many things from you and the boy. It'll be exciting to see what the two of you can do once we've connected you to his soul." It gave him an almost questioning look as though it was in disbelief at his words. "Maybe I should put it in to terms that you can understand." He said, clasping his hands behind his back.
"I'm going to forcefully merge the two of you into one being. You'll share his body, his mind, his thoughts. It'll be as if he was born with you already a part of him. In turn, he'll have access to your strength and power. I'm sure he will be quite the foe to our enemies! Hahaha!"
The air around him grew cold and the wind whipped against his face. The beaker shot off across the room, shattering against the wall. He looked at its broken remains before looking back at the eye. Another snarl escaped the tube before a terrifying voice pierced his ears.
"Involving a child in your perverse experiments is as cowardly as the prey I hunt."
Doctor Seraph's grin widened at its comment and he seemed as giddy as a child in a candy store. He latched his hands on the glass, as though he was giving it a painful hug. "You can speak!? How did I not know about this?! You can't be that old nor that well versed in human language! So how can you speak our language so fluently?!"
"I have been around since the Anor were but hatchlings upon this world. Your insignificant mind could not comprehend the amount of experience I have. Nor can you fathom the rage I feel towards you." She said.
He could not believe his ears. He was speaking to a beast that he thought to only be intelligent enough to climb its way to the top of the food chain. He could not begin to count the amount of questions the were racking his brain to a migraine.
"I shall not be tied down by your technology," she said in disgust, "However, I must comply until I meet this child. Once I do, I shall rend your flesh from your bones and hang your putrid corpse out for the scavengers to pick away at until there is nothing left!" She snarled.
The fear mixed with his unending, giddy joy and a wide grin crept upon his face. He believed every word she said and could not contain his laughter. It rang and echoed throughout the room and into the hallway. "I am looking forward to it!" He cried in between his outbursts of laughter.
"In fact, I hope you go through with your threat! It would provide so much invaluable data for the project! So please, lady Dragon, do your worst! Hahaha!"
"I shall enjoy ending your insignificant life and razing this place to ashes. This world has no place for filth such as yourself."
"Then, by all means, do. Your. Worst!"
