CHAPTER FIVE — power

A COUPLE OF WEEKS HAD GONE BY. Talia could feel herself getting more powerful every day that went by. She could feel it growing inside her, Wanda was helping Talia cope with the powerful surges she had. The hurtful migraines and the annoying voices. Wanda and Talia had moved their beds to the vent so they could talk to each other easier, "So what happened to your parents?" she asked sitting against the wall right below the vent. Wanda rested her head on the wall behind her, "They were killed" she said. Talia shook her head in sadness, "How?" she asked. Wanda recalled the memory, "There was a bomb, it blew our home to nothing, me and Pietro sat under the bed while a bomb was a couple of inches from our faces," she said.
Talia was interested, "Was there a name on the bomb?" she asked. Wanda nodded but knew Talia couldn't see her, "Stark," she said. That surprised Talia, Tony Stark was someone she idolized, she couldn't believe that Tony Stark would do that. It made her question everything, "I idolized Tony Stark... not anymore. I'm sorry that happened to you Wanda, you and Pietro didn't deserve that, and neither did your parents" she said. Wanda smiled, "Thank you Talia, you really are my best friend," she said causing Talia to smile. The doctor and his assistant walked down the hallway to Talia's room.
Talia heard this, she backed away from the door into the corner of the room. The door opened and the doctor looked at her, "Training time," he said with a sinister voice. The guards walked into Talias room and over to her. They grabbed her wrists and stuck a needle in her neck, Talia had passed out a few seconds later. "What are you doing to her?!" Wanda yelled from her room. The doctor looked at her through the vent, "Time to test her power," he said. Wanda got mad and protective over Talia, "Don't hurt her" she said. The doctor smirked and they took Talia out of her room.
Talia woke up in a room strapped down to a chair. Talia looked around the room and saw a metal room with metal manikins for training. The doctor was behind the glass observing Talia. He clicked the intercom, "hello Talia, you are about to be tested in front of us, so we can observe the abilities that you have already" he explained. Talia sat in the chair mentally going through the doctor's head without him knowing, he thought about the true power of the Phoenix Force, and that Talia was the only one that has survived, thinking about using her as a weapon. The doctor pushed the button for the intercom again, "use whatever you need to show us that power," he said.
Talia closed her eyes and thought about the anger she had for what Tony Stark did to Wanda and Pietro. The straps Talia had on her head, wrists, and ankles disintegrated and she stood up from the chair. The doctor was astonished. Talia walked up to the glass and looked at the doctor through the glass. She tilted her head looking at him, "You want to know my power?" She asked. The doctor smiled and nodded, "I've been reading your mind this entire time," Talia said looking at him. The doctor looked at her and put his hand on his head, "I don't quite know my power yet, I'm just figuring it out as I go along," she said.
Talia could feel her face heating up, she looked at the glass reflection and saw glowing orange veins on her face and the same veins in her eyes. She looked down at her hands and saw the veins were there too, on her legs and her chest, and her arms. Her hair started to float.

She smirked still with her head tilted, "So I guess this is what power feels like," she said smirking. Talia turned around and pointed her hands at the manikins and they turned to ash, "Who knew it felt this good" she whispered. The doctor was smiling with a wide smile, knowing that his experiment had succeeded. Talia turned around, "I am not your experiment," she said. The doctor sent the guards in bad they tried to stabilize her but she turned them to ash. The doctor grew worried, "Talia, if you don't stop I'll kill the Maximoff Twins," he said. Right then Talia stopped everything.
Talia looked at the doctor and nodded, "But you're not sedating me," she said. The doctor nodded, "Of course," he said. Talia looked at the ground and the veins disappeared, her eyes turned back to green, and her hair stopped floating. The door opened and more guards came in. Talia walked back to her cell as the guards walked behind her. She walked into her cell and they locked the door behind her. Wanda heard the door close, "Talia are you okay? Did they hurt you?" She asked. Talia walked over to the vent, "I'm fine they didn't hurt me, all they wanted was to see my power," she said. Wanda looked at her, "What happened?" She asked. Talia found that anger again and showed Wanda what she looked like.
Wanda reached her hand out and Talia reached and grabbed her hand. Wanda looked at the fiery veins on Talia's hand, "It's beautiful," she said. Talia smiled, "Doesn't feel beautiful," she said. Wanda looked at her with worry, "What does it feel like?" She asked. Talia winced as the veins reached her face, "Burning, it's hot. Anger fuels it" she said. Wanda found herself rubbing her thumb over the back of Talia's hand, "What was the fuel to your anger?" She asked. Talia looked up at Wanda, "What happened to you and Pietro. The anger that I found when you were telling me that story. My hatred for Tony Stark" she said. Wanda smiled, knowing that Talia really cared about her.
The doctor opened the door to Talia's cell, Talia looked at him with her real face. The doctor looked scared, "Great work Talia, you have entered phase two. And most of our volunteers didn't even get passed phase one" he said. Talia stepped forward, "I wasn't a volunteer, you kidnapped me. What was phase one? And what is phase two?" She asked. The doctor smiled, "Phase one is interconnection; the connection between the host and the Phoenix Force. Phase two is Enhancement; an increase of your ability and power. Phase three success; you have overcome every obstacle that the Phoenix Force has shown you, and you will be ready to take on anyone" he explained. Talia nodded, "I can definitely feel that I am in phase two," she said. The doctor nodded, "till tomorrow," he said then left the room.
Talia went back to Wanda, "Have you gone past phase two?" She asked. Wanda nodded, "Pietro and I have gone past phase three," she said. Talia nodded and returned her face back to normal, "I'm scared Wanda, what did he mean by taking on anyone?" She asked. Wanda smirked, "Taking on the Avengers," she said. Talia looked at her and smirked, she could finally defeat the man who caused her friend's pain.
