CHAPTER FOUR — out of hiding

TALIA KNEW that Steve would do something like this for his best friend. Almost destroying a building just to protect him and causing a colossal car crash on the road. Tony, Natasha, and Talia sat in the Berlin, Joint Terrorism Task Force headquarters. They impatiently waited for the cops and Rhodey to get Steve and Sam. She could hear the police sirens coming from down the street, "They're almost here," she said. Natasha got up and left the office they were sitting in to go and greet Steve. Just then Tony's phone started to ring. Tony looked at his phone to see who it was, he sighed and looked at Talia, "I'm in trouble. Good morning Secretary Ross. No. Romania was not Accords-sanctioned. And, Colonel Rhodes is supervising clean up" he said on the phone. Talia looked out the glass door of the office to see Steve walking in. Talia stood up and made eye contact with Steve, "Try not to break anything while we fix this" Natasha said walking by the office. Talia pushed open the door of the office and ran into Steve's arms. He smirked as he wrapped his arms around the teenager. Talia looked up at Steve and Sam, "Are you guys alright?" she asked with concern. Steve and Sam both smiled and nodded at their favorite girl. Tony walked out of the office when he saw Talia hugging Steve, when Talia heard Tony's voice, she let go of Steve and backed away, "Consequences? You bet there'll be consequences. Obviously, you can quote me on that 'cause I just said it. Anything else? Thank you, sir" Tony said as he ended the call. Steve looked Tony up and down, "Consequences"? he asked. Tony pointed at both of the men, "Secretary Ross wants you both prosecuted. Had to give him something" he said as he pulled Talia with him as he walked away. Steve watched in anger as he saw Tony do that, "I'm not getting that shield back, am I?" he asked. Natasha joined the two in walking, "Technically, it's the government's property. Wings, too" she said. Sam tilted his head to the side, "That's cold," he said. Tony shook his head as he looked back at them, "Warmer than jail," he said. Talia turned her head to look back at Steve, she gave him a look telling him she was sorry. He gave her a pity smile in return.

THE FLOOR was all Talia could focus on. She stared at the floor for what seemed like forever but it was only five minutes. Her head lifted just in time to see Steve leave the office, while Tony sat there by himself. Talia got up and joined her mother who was standing in front of all the cameras, "Hello, Mr. Barnes. I've been sent by the United Nations to evaluate you. Do you mind if I sit?" the doctor asked. When Bucky didn't respond he took the hint and sat down, "Your first name is James?" he asked. Again Bucky didn't respond. Talia shifted her head and saw that Steve, Sam, and Sharon were in the conference room again. Talia looked back at the cameras, "I'm not here to judge you. I just want to ask you a few questions. Do you know where you are, James? I can't help you if you don't talk to me, James" the doctor said. Bucky looked up for a moment, "My name is Bucky," he said in a monotone voice.
