CHAPTER FIVE — new allies

HIS ARM WAS TRAPPED in a compressor. Steve stared out the window watching the helicopters searching for his best friend. Sam watched as Bucky regained consciousness, "Hey, Cap!" Sam shouted. Steve turned his head and jogged over to where Bucky was. Sam and Steve stared at Bucky as he groaned in pain. Bucky looked up when he noticed people in the room, "Steve," he said. Steve looked down at Bucky, unsure about the whole situation, "Which Bucky am I talking to?" he asked. Bucky stared at the floor as he thought of something to say to convince Steve it was him, "Your mom's name was Sarah... You used to wear newspapers in your shoes" he said chuckling. Steve smirked as he sighed in relief, "Can't read that in a museum" he said. Sam looked at Steve, "Just like that, was supposed to be cool?" he asked. Bucky looked between Steve and Sam, "What did I do?" he asked hesitantly, he really didn't want to know the answer. Steve's eyebrows raised, "Enough," he said. Bucky sighed, "Oh, God, I knew this would happen. Everything HYDRA put inside me is still there. All he had to do was say the goddamn words" he said looking at Steve. Steve took a step forward, "Who was he?" he asked. Bucky tried to move a little bit, "I don't know," he said. Bucky's thoughts were plagued by the thought of her, the redhead, "People are dead. The bombing, the setup. The doctor did all that just to get 10 minutes with you. I need you to do better than "I don't know." Steve said.

BUCKY DECIDED to let his thoughts speak for him, "That girl?" he asked. Steve and Sam looked at each other. They knew once Talia was in someone's head, they wouldn't forget about it, "Talia," Sam said looking down. Bucky looked at Steve, "She was in my head," he said. Steve shook his head, he knew Talia wouldn't have hurt him, "What did she do to you?" he asked. Bucky smirked thinking about the girl he now knew as, Talia, "She gave me back something.. I thought I lost a long time ago," he said. Both Steve and Sam found themselves confused, "What was it?" Steve asked. Bucky smirked again, "My favorite memory," he said. Bucky thought back to Talia, he remembered studying her face. Her soft looking pale skin, her shiny ginger hair, her eyes that were greener then jade, and her rose red lips. Steve had never seen Bucky this way, he hadn't even really met Talia and now he's acting lovesick. Sam shook his head, "We need to focus," Sam said. Steve nodded, "What did the doctor want to know?" he said bringing the conversation back to its original subject. Bucky's brows furrowed as he thought, "He wanted to know about Siberia. Where I was kept. He wanted to know exactly where" he said. Steve gave him a look of confusion, "Why would he need to know that?" he asked. Bucky looked back up at Steve, "Because I'm not the only Winter Soldier," he said.

THE WINTER SOLDIER was the only thing Talia could think about. She had figured out that he was just like her. Secretary Ross walked into the room the three had been sitting quietly in, "I don't suppose you have any idea where they are?" he said. Tony stood up with his arms crossed over his chest, "We will. GSG-9's got the borders covered. Recon's flying 24/7. They'll get a hit. We'll handle it." he said. Ross didn't even look at Tony, "You don't get it, Stark. It's not yours to handle. It's clear you can't be objective. I'm putting Special Ops on this" he said. Natasha looked up at Ross, "What happens when the shooting starts? What, do you kill Steve Rogers?" she asked. Talia's heart raced at the thought of Steve dead because of them. Ross turned around facing the three, "If we're provoked. Barnes would've been eliminated in Romania if it wasn't for Rogers. There are dead people who would be alive now. Feel free to check my math" he explained. Tony sat down in the chair in front of Ross, "All due respect, you're not going to solve this with boys in bullets, Ross. You gotta let us bring them in" he said. Natasha looked over at Talia with concern. Talia didn't even look up, she could tell that her mind was running wild with thoughts about Steve and how this would end or if it ever would.

ROSS LOOKED DOWN at Tony, "How would that end any differently from the last time?" he asked with hesitance. Tony looked up at Ross, "Because this time, I won't be wearing loafers and a silk shirt. 72 hours, guaranteed" he said. Talia looked up at Tony and Secretary Ross, "36 hours. Barnes. Rogers. Wilson," he said walking out of the office. Tony made eye contact with both Romanoffs, "Thank you, sir," he said. Talia watched as Tony slumped forward and rubbed his chest as he exhaled, "My left arm is numb, is that normal?" he asked. Natasha stood up from her chair and walked over to Tony and put her arm on his shoulder, "You alright?" she asked. Tony looked in the distance for a second, "Always. 36 hours, jeez" he said. Natasha took her hand off his shoulder and crossed her arms over her chest as she looked away and then back at Tony, "We're seriously understaffed" she exhaled. Tony leaned back in his chair as he looked at Talia, "Oh, yeah. It'd be great if we had a Hulk right about now. Any shot?" he asked looking at Natasha. She smirked and looked back at him, "No. You really think he'd be on our side?" she asked. Tony shook his head slightly, "No," he said. Natasha kept looking at Tony, "I have an idea," she said. Talia looked between the two, Tony looked up at the redhead, "Me too. Where's yours?" he asked. Natasha looked at him with a confused face, "Downstairs. Where's yours?" she asked. Tony smiled slightly at her, "Queens. Talia, you're coming with me" he said pointing at her. Talia looked up at him, "Why not? I've been dying to go on a field trip" she said standing up from her chair.

TONY AND TALIA were driving down Queens Blvd when Tony decided to speak up, "Hey, I've meaning to apologize for what I said to you the other day," he said. Talia turned her head away from the window and toward Tony, "You mean when you said I would never have what it takes to be a hero. You want to apologize, yeah right?" Talia said. Tony looked at her for a split second, "Rhodey made me realize how cruel it was to say that to you" he said. Talia nodded as she smirked, "Well then I'll make sure I find the time to thank Rhodey when we get back" she said. Tony chuckled, "You really are your mothers daughter" he said. Talia nodded, "We almost there?" She asked. Tony nodded as they pulled up to an apartment. He put the car in park and turned to Talia, "This kid is about your age so... put that Romanoff smirk on and charm the kid when he looks at you" he said. Talia's brows rose, "Oh! So I'm the kids motivation. Basically 'hey kid! Join my team, keep in mind this gorgeous girl is on the team as well" she said with a fake tone of voice. Tony nodded at her and smirked as he opened his car door, "You got it" he said getting out. Talia huffed as she opened the passenger door and got out. The two walked into the building and rode the elevator up.
