CHAPTER FOUR — trouble

THE PLACE WAS SILENT as everyone stared at her. Peter was about to apologize for putting her in this kind of situation but Talia raised her eyebrows and put her right hand on her hip, "What's the matter? I thought you all wanted me to be here," she said. Flash turned the music back on and walked around the DJ table. Everyone began to crowd around her, asking for pictures but she denied everyone because she wasn't supposed to be there. Flash pushed through the crowd and walked over to Talia. She sized him up when he stood in front of her, "I'm Flash. I told Peter to invite you," he said. She could tell he was trying to be cocky and confident, she looked over at Peter who was looking down at the floor. Talia made it look like she was realizing something, "Oh! You're the guy who wanted to ask me out on a date," she said with a smile, which of course wasn't real. Flash smirked and nodded, he couldn't believe he was about to go on a date with an Avenger. Peter looked over at Talia while she was in the middle of the conversation with Flash. He didn't want her to say anything that made her seem like she was interested in Flash, "So, what do you say? You want to go on a date with The Flash Thompson?" Flash asked. Talia chuckled, "I'd rather eat broken glass than go on a date with someone who bullies my friends," she said with a straight face. The smile on Flash's face faded and his cheeks burned bright red in embarrassment as he walked past her, running to the bathroom. She turned around and smiled at Peter and Ned, "Now, let's have fun," she said grabbing their hands.
Later in the night, Peter and Talia found themselves on the roof of Liz's house. They both sat with their feet dangling over the edge. Peter looked over at her and admired her features as she looked out over the party. He looked down at her hand which was only an inch away from his, he thought about putting his hand over hers but his nerves prevented him from doing so. He exhaled which made Talia turn and look at him, "What's wrong?" she asked. He looked at her and shook his head, "It's nothing, it doesn't matter," he said looking down. Talia adjusted her head so he couldn't hide his face from her, "It must matter a little. What's bothering you?" she asked again. Peter looked up but chose not to face her, "I know I've said it a bunch, but thanks for doing this. It will definitely get Flash off my back for a little while," he said. She chuckled and nudged his shoulder, "Well, you let me know when he starts bullying you again. I'll handle it," she said with a soft smile. Out of nowhere, there was an explosion in the distance which made Peter and Talia's heads shoot up in that direction. Peter stood up and looked at the blue-colored eminence of the explosion, "What the hell?" he muttered. Talia stood up and watched Peter take his clothes off. Peter put his mask on and was about to jump off the roof but Talia grabbed his wrist, "You heard Happy, you shouldn't get involved. He'll tell Tony and you'll get in trouble," she said. Peter shook his head, "Stay here with Ned. I'll call you later," he said then swung off the roof. Talia shook her head and exhaled. She knew she would not hear the end of it from Tony tomorrow.
