CHAPTER TWO — accords

THE NEWS BROKE OUT. Talia was in her room watching the news while Natasha sat right next to her,
"11 Wakandans were among those killed during a confrontation between the Avengers and a group of mercenaries in Lagos, Nigeria, last month. The traditionally reclusive Wakandans were on an outreach mission in Lagos when the attack occurred" the news anchor said. The camera cut to the Wakandan King,
"Our people's blood is spilled on foreign soil. Not only because of the actions of criminals but by the indifference of those pledged to stop them. Victory at the expense of the innocent, is no victory at all" he explained. Natasha grabbed the remote and turned off the tv just as they started to talk about Wanda. Talia shook her head while looking down at the floor,
"Why can't they see that it wasn't her fault? She lost control, she couldn't help it" she said. Natasha put her hand on Talia's knee,
"People don't understand her like you do, Red. We all know it wasn't her fault" she said. Talia grabbed her mom's hand,
"I wish they knew her as I do. You know Tony is gonna blame her" she said looking at Natasha. Natasha shook her head as she stood up,
"I won't let him. I'm so proud of you for what you did in Lagos. You saved my life, I owe you one" she said. Talia chuckled,
"You're my mom, you don't owe me anything," she said. Natasha nodded and then left the room, closing the door behind her.

THE ROOM WAS SILENT but Talia's thoughts were not. If Talia had gotten to Steve on time, rather than standing next to Sam as he talked to Natasha, then she could've stopped that bomb and absorbed it as she had done many times before. But she was careless and she didn't think about the consequences of those few seconds. Now, Wanda was being blamed for the explosion and being treated like a villain. Talia had never seen Wanda so afraid of something she had done. She was fearful of the pain she had caused and Talia could see it. If Wanda had waited for her to show up, Steve would have died. But she tried to deal with the bomb herself, and more people died. She really didn't have much of a choice, did she?

THE DOOR to Talia's room opened and she saw Vision,
"Sorry to interrupt Talia, but Mr. Stark needs everyone to come to the office," he said. Talia gave him a look of confusion as he left the doorway. Talia got up from her bed and grabbed her red leather jacket off of her chair next to the door. When Talia walked out of her room and was met with Wanda and Steve walking to the office, too. Wanda wrapped her arm around Talia's,
"Do you know what this is about?" she said. Talia shrugged and looked at her,
"I have a pretty good idea," she said.

ALL OF THE AVENGERS sat at the round table, and Wanda sat in between Talia and Vision. Talia knew what this was about, she read Tony's mind when she, Wanda, and Steve entered the room. Talia and Tony never got along, he always thought that a "little girl" her age shouldn't have the amount of power that she has. But Talia knew, that no one would ever be able to wield her power as she does. No one was strong enough, until her.
