CHAPTER FOURTEEN — ashes to ashes

HULK BELLOWED OUT A ROAR. Ultron's drones ran straight for the Avengers. Natasha was using her martial arts training, Steve was beating them with his shield, Wanda was ripping them apart, Thor was using his hammer, Vision was using the stone, Tony was blasting them, Clint never missed a shot, Pietro was using speed to break them, Hulk was smashing, and Talia was turning them to ash. Ultron went for Vision and Vision started to use the mind stone. Tony and Thor joined him. Mind Stone, Lightning, and Repulsors. Not a chance he could win against that fight. All of the drones started to escape, "They'll try to leave the city," Thor said. Tony shook his head, "We can't let 'em, not even one. Rhodey!" He said on the coms.
The rest of the Avengers in the church stood in front of Steve, "We gotta move out. Even I can tell the air is getting thin. You guys get to the boats, I'll sweep for stragglers, be right behind you" Steve said. Clint turned his head, "What about the core?" He asked. Wanda stepped forward, "I'll protect it. It's my job" she said looking at Clint. Natasha looked at Talia, "Stay safe," she said. Talia nodded and looked at the twins, "Get the people on the boats," Wanda said. Pietro shook his head, "We're not going to leave you here," he said and Talia nodded. Wanda looked at them. "I can handle it," she says as she blasts a drone that was walking toward her. Pietro nodded, "Come back for me when everyone else is off, not before," Wanda said. Talia and Pietro started to walk off, Wanda looked at the both of them, "You understand?" She asked. Pietro turned around with a smirk on his face, "You know, I'm twelve minutes older than you," he said. Wanda chuckled, "Go," she said. Pietro ran off. Talia walked up to Wanda and put her forehead against hers, "I don't know what I'll do if you get hurt," Talia said. Wanda nodded and put her hand on Talia's cheek, "I'll be fine. Now you stay safe and go" she said. Talia nodded and ran off.
Talia ran around getting the drones away from the church. Talia then felt the most painful feeling in her chest. Talia focused on where it was coming from and she got an image of Pietro dead on the ground with bullets in him, "No, no. No" she said as tears built up in her eyes. She could feel the phoenix force building up inside her. Talia dropped to her knees and screamed. Every single drone in front of her and down the block turned to ash as she sobbed. Talia stood up and could feel Wanda's pain, so she ran back to the church. Talia saw Wanda on her knees crying, she ran over to her and dropped down to her knees.
Wanda looked up at Talia and started to cry more, Talia leaned forward and embraced Wanda in a hug and both of the girls cried on each other's shoulders. The three of them were inseparable and they loved each other like they were all from the same family.
But Pietro was gone now, the trio was now a duo.
Both of the girls could feel that Ultron had landed in a subway car by the church. Talia stood up and grabbed Wanda's hand to pull her up onto her feet. They both walked into the subway car, which powers emerging from their hands. They walked over to Ultron and knelt down next to him. He looked at both of the beautiful girls, "Talia. Wanda. If you stay here, you'll die" he said. Both Wanda and Talia had tear-stained cheeks and their eyes were bloodshot, "We just did. Do you know how it felt?" Wanda said. Wanda raised her hand and started to pull Ultron's energy core out, Talia smirked as she watched Ultron die. Wanda pulled the energy core right out of his body and into her hand, "It felt like that?" she whispered. Talia raised her hand and put it on his head, Wanda watched in joy as Talia slowly turned Ultron to ash, she continued until there was nothing left, "Try and come back from that," she said as Wanda and she smiled at each other.
Wanda and Talia then felt the city fall. They both floated in the air. Vision flew in and grabbed both of the girls and took them to the Helicarrier. Steve saw the girls and ran to them, he took notice of their tear-stained cheeks. Talia looked at Steve, she got up and run to him. Steve wrapped his arms around the girl, she buried her head into his chest as she cried, "It's gonna be ok. I promise" he whispered. Talia nodded.
The Avengers went to the compound after the mission. Talia and Wanda were provided with rooms. They were Avengers now. Pietro's death took something away from the girls. Natasha knew she had to tell Talia who she really was eventually and she didn't care if Talia would hate her, but she needed her to know the truth. Natasha found herself walking to Talia's room down the hall. She stopped in front of the door and hesitated to knock, after about five seconds, she did. "Come in!" Talia said from inside the room. Natasha opened the door and stepped in, Talia looked up at the redhead, "Oh hey, Nat! What's up?" She asked. Natasha chuckled at her and sat down on the bed facing Talia, "I need to tell you the truth," she said. Talia's eyebrows furrowed, "Ok?" she asked with confusion. Natasha closed her eyes and exhaled, "I knew your parents, Thomas and Isabelle. Do you know that you're adopted?" She asked. Talia shrugged, "I kind of always felt like I was because I look nothing like Isaac, my brother. How do you know?" she asked.
Natasha took another deep breath, "Because I'm your real mother," she said. Talia's breath hitched in her throat, she could feel the tears building up in her eyes, "You are?" She asked. Natasha nodded, "I gave you to Thomas and Isabelle when you were born," she said. Talia looked up at her as a tear fell down her cheek, "Did you not want me?" She asked. Natasha looked at her and grabbed her daughter's hands, "No! That's not why I did it. I gave you up because having me as a mother would put you in danger. And I couldn't have you getting hurt under my watch" she explained. Talia nodded as more tears fell. Natasha thought Talia was going to throw her out of the room. But she was surprised when Talia threw her arms around her shoulders and brought her in for a deathly hug. Natasha hugged back and chuckled, "Couldn't you see the resemblance?" She asked causing Talia to laugh. "Now I can," she said, and then it was Natasha's turn to cry.
Weeks later, it had been time to start the newbie training. Natasha was standing in the hallway outside of the training room when Steve walked up behind her, "You want to keep staring at the wall, or do you want to go to work? I mean, it's a pretty interesting wall" he said. Natasha turned around and walked up to him, "I thought you and Tony were still gazing into each other's eyes. How do we look?" She asked. Steve shook his head, "Well, we're not the '27 Yankees, but Talias doing very well. How'd the whole mother thing go?" he said handing Natasha a tablet. She looked at the information, "It went really well. We've got some hitters" she said. Steve nodded, "They're good. They're not a team" he said. Natasha chuckled as they opened the doors, "Let's beat 'em into shape," she said.
Rhodey opened the mask of his War Machine suit, Vision turned around in his new suit, Sam flew down and his wings retracted into its pack, Wanda flew down with her powers, and Talia turned around in her new suit with her powers emerging from her hands. Talia looked at her mother and Steve and smirked. Natasha saw her daughter and winked at her. Steve looked at the new group, "Avengers...!"
