bonus chapter #3 - advice

Fred's POV:

This week has been absolutely exhausting. Nat has been gone for the entire week on some girl's vacation with Tori, Bella, Hermione, and Ginny and I've been stuck here working and taking care of our two troublemaker kids. She was supposed to be getting back tonight, who knows when, and I couldn't wait till she did.

It's only been a week but I've missed her so fucking much. There were no words to describe how much I wish she was sitting next to me right now. My hand's been sick and tired for this entire week of her sending me pictures, teasing me in that tiny little bathing suit of hers, like the fucking minx that she was.

And then, Maia, a bubbly and energetic six year old, was in my care for an entire week and let me tell you, I think there were at least five times where she could have been hurt but thankfully, I was able to make sure the damage wasn't too bad. I even had to bribe her with candy and chocolate so that she didn't tell Nat about what had happened.

And to top it all off, Nick and his boyfriend were having problems. I could tell how agitated he would get at every little thing and it broke my heart to see how it affected him. His boyfriend was Noah Adams, Kalen's son, and it took some time to get used to being so close to him. Kalen and I made up, sort of, since those years ago from all the childish fucking drama that took place and he soon became one of my closest friends.

Knocking on his door, I wanted to see if Nick was open to doing something tonight, just the two of us since Maia was at George and Lee's.

"Hey Nick," I said, causing him to look up from his phone and at me. It was summer so he was always on his phone or playing some sort of game with his friends. When he was at Hogwarts, it was weird to have the house be weirdly quiet even though we still had Maia. "You wanna do something tonight?"

"I'm not really in the mood Dad. Can we take a rain check?" he responded.

"What's wrong Nick?" I asked, sitting on his bed. "Relationship problems?"

"How did you know?" he asked, looking up at me.

"You act like I've ever been in a relationship Nick," I joked, rolling my eyes.

"It's just Noah's being kind of weird. He's being more distant and I don't know why," Nick confessed. "I feel like he's gonna break up with me."

"What do you mean? I though things were okay with the two of you."

"I thought that too. I just don't know what to do."

"You two need to talk things out. Maybe something's going on in his personal life which is why he's starting to be more distant. But if you think it's something worth talking about, make sure that you are able to tell him that and talk to him about how you feel."

"Yeah that's a good idea," Nick said, a small smile finally showing up on his face for the first time in a week. I was actually surprised that my advice had helped, ever since we adopted Nick, he had been such a momma's boy whereas Maia was more clingy to me.

"Do you love him?" I asked.

"Yeah I think I do Dad," Nick said. Dad. I was still never gonna get used to that. "When did you know with Mum?"

"I knew from the minute I met her that I was gonna fall for her but your mum and I went through a lot Nick. She's one of the toughest people I know, and I love her with every single cell in my body but that doesn't mean either of us didn't fuck up."

"What do you mean?" he asked. I knew that this was a long story so I told Nick to get comfortable.

"I met your mum at Grandpa Sirius's the summer before out seventh year. We became close, me, her, and your Uncle George. Then we got to school and we started dating and it was going great and then Kalen, Noah's dad, caused some problems between the two of us. We ended up breaking up and then we got back together a few weeks after. Things went fine but then a lot happened with your mum, one thing was her finding out that she was potentially infertile. It took a huge toll on her and we took a small break. That was fine, she just needed space but then more things happened once we got back together. Your mum's ex-boyfriend came back into the picture, causing a lot more trouble after we found out that she was pregnant." I noticed Nick's face completely changing when I mentioned how Nat was pregnant, we chose not to tell Nick and Maia until they were older so that they didn't have to know how much it affected the both of us.
