The moon shone luminously in the midnight sky, a beautiful contrast of a white crescent against the dark blue hue.

The milky globe cast it's light down on the land below and to a particular castle that stood proud and tall on the ground. The white stone carving of the castle's walls almost seemed grey due to the darkness letting the other know it was the time to be in a peaceful slumber.

The eyelids of the warrior guarding the doors fluttered ever so slightly but he didn't dare drift off to sleep as his higher ups patrolled the area keeping a check on the guards and the castle grounds.

It was a very crucial time to fall asleep. Especially with the queen being in labour. Anytime now, they'd get the news of the Verakov twins' arrival. The twins will be the next inline to the throne of Lycor, the lycan kingdom. The first borns of the lycan king, Acheros.

But that wasn't it.

He knew how eagerly people had been awaiting the birth of the twins. Ever since the fortune witch predicted the prophecy about the future lycan princess to be the end of the High King of Ancientriova, Valerian Kingston's cruel rule, every single supernatural had their eyes on the queen's birth.

The lycan princess could be the one to end the cruel king. And no one wanted to miss the opportunity to keep her as their shield against him.

The High King had heard of the prophecy too. And that is exactly why King Acheros had tripled the guards around the castle. He didn't want Valerian killing his daughter in fear of his own end.

As the guard fought the urge to drift into a peaceful slumber, a loud, earth-shattering scream made him jerk up on his footings.

Every single one of the king's guards looked around in alarm, their eyes snapping to each other before they all rushed inside the castle in a haste.

The continuous flapping of the shoes against the white marbled floor echoed in the dead of the night as they all ran upto the royal bedchambers where the scream was heard from.

Upon reaching the room, every one of them whimpered at the sight.

Their king and queen were splattered on the floor in a heap of blood and bones.

King Acheros' hollow eyes had unshed tears within them while Queen Charlotte laid very still almost as if a figment of one's imagination.

"This is an assassination against the throne! Find the heirs! The prince and the princess. Where are they?!" A guard shouted out after a few minutes of shocked silence.

He, including the whole of the lycan troop were too in pain after losing their beloved King.

The other guards scrambled around in search of the prince and princess, their future rulers, with all their might.

But they never did find them.

A man ran and ran with all his might carrying two just-borns in his arms, his path drifting away from the castle towards the abandoned woods.

His breathing came out in labored huffs as his footsteps picked speed sending heaps of dirt and mud flying at his feet.

But he was no comparison to the figure following him. He was no comparison to the dark witch behind him.
