The car was dead silent, the occasional sound from a few headlights flashing from behind and the muffled swish of wind cars would bring with them as they overtook Carter's car being the only sound that filled the tension filled air.

The drive was long enough to have them sort out their thoughts, the possible responses to the question Carter would ask when they got to whatever place Carter was driving them to. It was around ten minutes into the drive when Carter decided to pull up into a large vacant area, overlooking waters. It was empty and quiet, a space away from people. Perfect to vent out and scream.

"Get out."

The command was stern, it was solid and was not to be questioned another time. Chris and Sebastian got out immediately, no questions asked or confused looks exchanged, dragging their feet as they pushed through the doors and felt the sandy gravel underneath their shoes. A strong gust of wind blew through them, whistling past them and causing them to tuck their hands into their coats at the cold night that bit at their exposed skin.

Carter stares at the duo through the passenger seat window and sighs, muttering something under his breath as he got out himself, both men already avoiding the gaze Carter had set on them. "You guys gonna tell me what that was all about?"

Sebastian ran his tongue over his teeth, keeping his gaze on the water. "It was nothing."

"Yeah, you just decided to punch the lights out of each other for fun." Carter said in a sarcastic tone, rolling his eyes. He leaned back into the bumper of his car, arms crossed over his chest. "You both mentioned (y/n)'s name. Gracie works at a law firm and (y/n)'s a certified psychologist, I think I'm capable enough to know how to get something out of the both of you."

"It's... just a misunderstanding."

"Bullshit."

"Fine!" Sebastian groaned, making the two other men turn to look at him; Carter with his eyebrows raised in anticipation and Chris glaring at the younger man. "We're both in love with (y/n). There, are you happy now?"

Carter is quiet for a moment, studying Sebastian. "But..?"

"Wha— why is there a but?" Sebastian stares back at the taller man confusingly. "Isn't that enough information? We're both in love with (y/n), I got mad, I started the fight. Can we just go back already?"

"He's not wrong Carter, he started the fight, I retaliated like a complete asshole." Chris shook his head, eyebrows raised up slightly. Carter shot him an emotionless look back, causing Chris to groan. "Come on, you're seriously gonna play that card now?"

"Yes I'm playing that card Evans. We're discussing this like civilized people, I need you two idiots to act like people. As much as it concerns my little sister, it concerns the both of you too. And that's important to talk about. So..." Carter trails off, picking up a rock and throwing it up in the air, only to catch it. "What's the 'but'? You're both in love with (y/n), that's established. But?"

"Does this psychology thing run in the family or is it just a skill you guys naturally pick up?"

"That literally means the same thing Evans." Sebastian deadpanned, earning a glare from the blond man.

"We can bounce back and forth all night," Carter interrupts loudly. "If you two don't say anything, I literally have no choice but to bring (y/n) into this, she's just one message away y'know."

"It's her birthday Carter, give her a break."

"Yeah? Then why the hell did you two decide to have a live boxing match across the house she was having her birthday celebration in?" Carter shot back. Both men looked away in embarrassment. Chris stared back at the waters while Sebastian stared at his shoes, all the thoughts and sample explanations to get them the hell out of this mess running through their head like marathoners. "Sebastian knows this, we've scared potential boyfriends since she officially found out kissing didn't get you pregnant. Like any other older brother, I knew that this was bound to happen, even as a kid."
