⚠️ WARNINGS: some spoilers to (post!)Captain America: Civil War & (pre!)Avengers: Infinity War ⚠️

It's been a long time since the fight in Berlin, but it was a mystery how two years could feel like yesterday. Two years of hiding and running because you had no intention of giving up the right to choose and protect the innocent. The weak. It could've been better, if it was better discussed or if you had the time to actually discuss anything. But it was better than nothing. It is what it is; it's not like you had a choice. Well, you did, but the options were absolute trash.

All things considered, it was a peaceful running. Being on the run doesn't seem so bad if you look and see who you're running with. Or maybe... maybe it was the thrill of the chase that had you such at ease. Maybe it was how much domestic normalcy it has given you now that you're not wanted... needed rather. Blended in with the common crowd, hiding any remnants of your life before. But you had to admit, being an Avenger used to be your normal.

You admit missing your job, sometimes even the people, as much as it doesn't sound true. You miss them. You miss Tony most especially, because it's, well, Tony. You still loved him and you just hoped he knew that no matter what, you'd always be there for him... things were just too difficult right now. You missed the normal you used to have. But you couldn't complain with what you had now.

Your eyes flutter open slowly, eyes slowly focusing on the gray, worn-out curtain by the window flowing into the room, watching as golden rays of early sunlight poured through the holes bored into the fabric with how long it's been hanging up there and the worn gaps between the fibers. You dared not move, the surprising coldness of the sheets giving you a great sense of heavenly comfort; something you haven't felt in a really long time.

"Are you awake?"

You let out a tired grunt and face the disembodied voice, bringing your knees up to your naked chest, burrowing your head deeper into his, hiding from today's morning awakening.

He leans in and tilts your head up, pressing a warm, soft kiss on your nose. "Good. We need to get a move on."

"Now?" you asked groggily, trying to reboot your brain a little more faster. You take a second to lie down on your back, yawning tiredly as you stretched your legs as far out as you could. "Why didn't you wake me up earlier then?"

"Couldn't help myself. You looked like you haven't slept in days."

You rolled your eyes playfully. A beep comes from the silver ring on your middle finger, startling you as it starts to warm up a little bit as well. You raise it, eye level, squinting as a glowing purple line cuts across the middle of the metal. "Shuri, you smartass." you grin as you push yourself up from the bed and pull on a white shirt to cover up. You tap on it once with your thumb and Shuri's face comes up in a purple hued hologram.

"(y/n)!"

"Salut, Shuri."

"You're in Paris?" Shuri asks, taking a moment to place her laboratory goggles above her head as you've got her complete attention at the mention of the most romantic city on earth. "I'd love for you to take me one day. I just don't see what all the hype is about."

"Not Paris, just France. We're just about to head back out."

"Just France," Shuri mocked. "Only you could make a normal conversation sound like a mission and you're practically retired," she gave you a teasing look. "Anyways, I was wondering if you and Captain Rogers would like to visit Wakanda today to check up on James' progress."
