What Happened? [COMPLETE]

Chapter 3: How Did This Happen?

I open my eyes to something warm hugging me. I rub my eyes a bit and look down at my lap. Partner was there, hugging my waist. I looked at him and smiled. I turned on the TV that just showed static once more and watched. As I watched the static I pat Partners head. After a good 3 minutes he opens his eyes and gets his head off my lap. He stands up and stretches just to sit down next to me. He looks at the static and tugs my arm. I look at him and ask what is wrong. He then points at outside. All I could do was sigh and hug him. I held him close to me knowing that he was my only friend that was still alive in all this mess. He looks at me and then stands up. He look's at outside again and looks at me once more. I could tell what he was thinking about. Why was this Town like this? It used to be so happy and full of people... He walks back at me and draws Crop Famers hat in the air. He tilts his head in confusion. I feel the room turn cold and silent. I feel the urge to cry but I just can't. I look down at the floor.

" Do you really want to know Partner?"

Partner nods and sits down on the floor. He had to know at some point right? I just didn't want to tell him now.. Not today. I took another sigh and took a deep breath in and out. I looked at him and asked again. He nodded again and seemed ready to hear what exactly happened. I get ready to tell Partner what happened..

" Well... Before this town became what it is now you might remember of what it was before all this. "

Partner nodded yes. 

" Back then we had someone called Crop Farmer. He was friendly, kind, and what he did for us was very important. He gave us plants that he harvested for us to eat, he helped the ecosystem from falling apart, but most importantly he helped us stay sane and healthy. He would walk around town to talk to people. Whenever people heard his voice they felt safe.. That included me.  He made sure everyone was happy and sane.. He kept us under control even though he wasn't the Mayor and just a simple citizen. Everyone would come visit him including me to.. I went to him often for advise, help, and just to feel safe. I liked listening to him and I will never forget how he helped me through ruff time in my life. I felt safe near him. Until.. He did show up one day. People through he was just doing some farm work and didn't want to be disturbed so somebody checked on him. This happened for days and eventually it was week 2 without his showing up. The Mayor sent an officer to go investigate were he was. Why? Because people needed food. Some were starving while others felt un safe without him around. That also included me. Then the news hit... Everyone was tuned onto the news and we heard what he did.. He had hanged himself. T-that moment... THAT MOMENT MADE ME FEEL.. Sadness. "

At that moment I felt tears run down my face. 

" And we didn't know why he did it. He just did. Days passed without his care and then things started to fall apart. People didn't have enough food since he was the only one who really knew how to manage plants and meat. People started to get hungry and then they started attacking each other. Bombs, guns, and many other weapons were built to hunt down each other. Then strange stuff started to happen. People started skipping town because they killed someone for the greater good. They would never return.. People didn't care about nature and soon everything became dead. A wasteland. And that's how we got here... "

I looked at Partner who was now looking down at the floor crying softly. I stood up and picked Partner up. I sat back down on the couch and pat his head as tears ran down his face.

" It's okay.. Things like this happen sometimes. Who knows, maybe this place will turn back to normal. We just have to wait and survive to see. "

I hugged Partner and wiped his tears away and looked at the TV which was just static. I held him close to me as  we both watched TV. I felt safe..
