Kousei woke up in a bed. A familiar white ceiling stood above him. An unnerving, sickening feeling flooded his body. How did he get to the bed? Who brought him there? He felt a nudge, accompanied by a muted groaning and a young woman beginning to stir in the bed beside him. He knew who she was, however she was only familiar in essence. Her appearance was drastically different. The flushed face he had fallen hopelessly for was now utterly drained of all colour, a ghostly figure in her place. As he paid attention to his own body, he came to a frightening train of thought. His skin was now reminiscent of a healthy person's, his limbs gave him no pain and his ways of thinking had even changed. He had a desire to live that he had not felt in a long, long time. He wanted to live with Kaori. Had their roles been reversed? Was this some sick, cruel dream? Was he overestimating and maybe today was just one of his good days, and one of her not so good ones? Fear, uncertainty, desire, these emotions all formed some sort of unbearable cocktail that Kousei wanted to embrace, but that he also wanted to reject at all costs.
