HER MIND HOLDS
THE GALAXY AND
HER EYES HOLD
THE CEMETERY FOR
THE STARS.
.
it wasn't new to
me.
this place,
i had been here before,
i am wandering,
aimlessly
through the world.
a wandress,
my mother called me once.
she put her hand under my chin
and made me meet her eyes
telling me that my green eyes had
lost their life.
that it looked like
there was no life
pulsing beneath my skin.
i looked down then.
those were the last words
my mother ever spoke to me.
i think she hoped that i would
kill myself,
save her the trouble.
but i didn't.
i'm alive, and i'm
living a fuller life than her.
she was surrounded
by empty whiskey bottles
and she was full of thoughts
that she could not express.
i had empty palms
but a full bed
and body.
i look up at the sky.
no one can hurt me anymore.
i exhale,
the smoke leaving my nose.
i am in love with the air i breathe,
however broken i may be.
