Surprise Visit

You hung up the phone call with your agent, Jane. She had just given you the news: you got a callback! You really had a chance at getting this part. Quickly, you called Helena.

"You got a callback?" she asked right when she picked up.
"How did you know?" you asked.
"Because you're perfect for the part, your talented, and you're beautiful," she told you, and you blushed even though she couldn't see.
"I didn't actually get the part yet, just a callback," you said realistically.
"Come on, be positive. I'm so proud of you love, I really am".
"Thank you. How's production going? Do you think you can come to New York?"
"I actually bought a ticket already. I'm leaving in about an hour," she told you, and you gasped.
"Really?" you asked excitedly.
"Yeah, I'll see you soon!"
"Text me when you land".
"Of course I will. I love you, baby," she said, making you smile.
"I love you too".

You decide to go out on a little shopping spree. You buy some clothes for fun, and you buy some fancy soaps, hoping to maybe take a bath with Helena later.

You aren't out too long, since your tired from your auditions and you know you still have to prepare for the callback tomorrow. You sprawl out on your bed and begin rereading the script.

A little while later, a notification dings on your phone.
Hellie: just landed! See you soon, my love.
You text her back that you can't wait to see her. About a literal second later, you hear a knock at the door. Weird, you think, didn't she just land? Maybe it's a surprise and she got in earlier. You decide to go with that.

"Hellie, did you really tease me like that?" you ask, opening up the door. Unfortunately, it's not Helena. You stop dead in your tracks when you see who's at the door.
"Mom," you say, shocked. Standing in the doorway is your mother, who you haven't seen in about a year.
"Close your mouth, y/n, it's very unflattering," she told you, judging you already. You didn't even realize your mouth was open in shock.

"Who did you think I was?" she asked.
"Oh...no one," you said, very unsmoothly. You weren't ready to tell her about Helena. Suddenly, it hit you. Your girlfriend would probably be there in about ten minutes. You knew you couldn't text her and tell her not to come to the hotel, and you knew you had to be an adult about this.

"You texted me. I figured you wanted me to visit you," your mom said, getting you out of your thoughts.
"Uh yeah. Yeah, of course," you said, hoping to be convincing.
"You told me you had an audition for a lead? How'd it go?"
"It went well, I got a callback!" you told her excitedly, still nervous that Helena would walk in at any moment.

"Congrats. You've been at it long enough and you deferred a scholarship, so it would be great if you made that actually worth it," she told her, her voice harsh and her tongue sharp.
"Mom, I have to tell you something," you said, just as your phone beeped again, signaling a text.
Hellie: almost there! Be there in 5 :)

"Who's that?" your mom asked you quickly.
"Well, that's actually what I want to talk about," you began.
"Did you finally meet a man? Is he British? Oh my god, is he royal? Are you about to pull a Meghan Markle? You could use a rich man".
"Mom, you know I'm gay," you said calmly. Thank god she doesn't read British tabloids or she would have already known, you thought.

"Yes I know but I keep hoping you'll change your mind about that," she said, and you sucked in an annoyed breath.
"Mom, please let me finish," you began, and she nodded, "she actually is British, yes. And she's an actress".
"Anyone I know or just a background actress like you?" she asked snidely.

"Well, you actually do know her..." you said, but we're cut off by the sound of the door opening.
"Y/n, I'm so proud of you," you heard the voice in the doorway yell, and you were grateful she didn't say anything embarrassing. The door opened all the way and Helena walked into the room. Your mother gasped, and it took Helena a moment to realize there was someone else in the room.

"Who is this?" she asked you. You could tell she had no idea.
"Hellie, this is my mother," you said softly.
"Oh!" she exclaimed clearly surprised, "it's such a pleasure to meet you. I'm..." she began, your mom cut her off.
"I know who you are. You are- well, we're- one of my favorite actresses," your mother said harshly.

"Mom, really I was trying to tell you. Don't be mad at her," you pleaded, but she wasn't interested. You don't know why you cared so much. When you first went to London, you wanted a clean break from your mother. You were honestly just confused. Sure, you didn't like her and she was judgmental, but it felt so wrong if your relationship was ended for good.

"Aren't you with Tim Burton?" your mom asked Helena, and you saw her physically recoil the second that name was mentioned. You put your hand on her arm supportively. Once again, your mom clearly didn't read British tabloids.
"We actually broke up a while ago," Helena said, with the same composer you had attempted.

"I just don't understand why the hell you would pick my daughter. Do you know how old she is? Do you realize how much this could damage your career?"
"Mom, shut up. You aren't her mother, and you aren't her manager. You have no right to treat her like this".
"I'm just shocked at how disillusioned I am today. Also, what if I don't want my daughter dating someone my age?"
"It's not any of your business. I love her. Please leave before you cause more drama," you said, and you were surprised at how badass you were acting. You usually weren't the one to stand up for yourself, but you weren't doing it for yourself, you were doing it for Hellie.

"Fine, I'll go," she said, defeated.
"Good," you told her.
"Just know that I'm disgusted in you," she said, then she turned to Helena, "the same for you. I used to like you before I knew you were just some slutty cougar". With that, she walked out, slamming the door.

The moment the door slammed you began to cry.
"I'm so sorry, you shouldn't have seen that," you told Helena, sobbing into her as she pulled you into a hug.
"I'm so sorry you've had to put up with that your whole life. Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not now, I just want to enjoy being with you".
"Okay," she said, pulling you closer.

After a few minutes, you stopped crying.
"Better?" she asked, and you nodded.
"Good. Now, I flew all the way here to celebrate, and that's what we're going to do!" she said, her tone changing to excitement.

Authors note: thought I'd add some drama! Don't worry, next chapter will get dirty, I got you.
