Forty-One:- Story Time
"Mind telling me why you took a break from work to come here?" Jadrianne stared straight at her boyfriend who was sitting on the floor crossed-legged avoiding her gaze. It seemed like the sky from the outside looked way entertaining to Nathan than the curious girl on the sofa before him.
"You really keep your floors clean, huh?" He avoided the question as he swiped his finger across the wood-covered floor.
Jadrianne chuckled softly and shook her head at him. He's being cute right now and he doesn't know it.
"This is about Zan, isn't it?" The obvious flinch of his body answered her question. Jadrianne didn't think he was the jealous type. Who would've thought that the guy who kept telling her to get lost ends up following her to her apartment like a stray dog?
"I told you, he's nothing more than a clingy childhood acquaintance." She kneeled down in front of him with an assuring smile. "Now, will you get up and sit on the sofa like a normal person?"
"Pssh, says the one who was never normal from the start." Nathan snorted and got up, regardless. Jadrianne lightly giggled and reached her hand up, patting his head while ruffling his hair a bit.
"Don't touch me," he said but made no move to stop her. Jadrianne only pecked his cheek in response. "That's the exact opposite of what I meant." He furrowed his eyebrows, but the pink hues on his ears gave off a different message.
Nathan plopped on her sofa while carelessly laying his head back against the top cushion. Numerous things run through his mind and one of it was Zan's words from school.
"I knew there was something up when I was called here."
There was a heavy feeling in his chest when he recalled those words. What did that silver sock-head even mean by that? Did he come only for Jadrianne? What's he called for? All these questions swirled in the brunet's mind. Nathan watched Jadrianne from his peripheral vision in wonder.
It got him thinking—the rich girl, Kendal who had a random match with Jadrianne.
Second event, Jadrianne's older brother came unannounced at her doorstep.
Then now, Zan, an attention-seeking childhood friend of Jadrianne.
Just who in the world am I dating? He wondered as his head began to throb from the puzzle he is surfacing.
Not liking the anxiety eating within him, he turned fully to Jadrianne. "Hey." He paused and licked his lips that were becoming dry. "Is there . . . a reason why all these people like your brother then that bleached-Zan came down to see you?"
Jadrianne looked like a deer caught in headlights. "Um, I don't specifically know it myself."
Blinking in disbelief, Nathan grabbed her by the collar—reducing his strength—he barked at her, "How can you be this clueless after the trouble you've been through, you idiot sandwich?!"
It didn't phase him when Jadrianne didn't express any fear from his actions. In fact, she remained looking like a clueless puppy. Nathan's dark brown orbs looked into her emerald ones and sighed as he released his grip on her.
"Look," he started as he gently patted her shirt's sleeves and collar to appear tidy, "I . . . just don't want you to worry all by yourself."
She watched as he slumped back against the cushion. The worry lines on his forehead was evident in how much he cares for her. The indication swells her heart.
