The next morning Diana woke up in the infirmary. Hermione had left her there after Diana got treated by Madam Pomfrey. Hermione offered to spend the night with her but Diana refused saying it wasn't that big of a deal.
Diana didn't think it was necessary to stay overnight since it was a magical burn that healed almost completely. But nonetheless Diana stayed put. She spent half the night asleep and the other half using an ice spell to freeze her hand. Whatever happened to the light that then turned to fire bad injured Diana more than she was willing to admit.
"Alright dear, you are free to go to breakfast. Sorry I kept you here over night. I needed to make sure you were fully healed. Are you feeling better?" Madam Pomfrey asked.
Diana smiled and nodded although she wasn't feeling fully better. She left the infirmary and headed to the common room. On the way she bumped into someone.
"Bennett, hi. Are you okay? Hermione was telling me-" Harry began but Diana cut him off, "I'm fine, Potter. Thanks for your concern".
"Oh... um- okay. You are welcome to sit with Hermione, Ron, and I if you would like" Harry said, not really knowing what to tell her.
"I've never sat with you three once in my life. Why start today?" Diana simply said as she walked past him.
Harry watched the girl watch away and debated on whether or not to go after her and say something.
His thoughts were interrupted by the youngest Weasley. "Hi Harry. Ron and Hermione are waiting for you, told me to come say something" Ginny told him. Harry half smiled at the twelve year old girl and then walked to the Great Hall.
When he sat down he turned to Hermione, "what exactly happened last night? Why's Bennett's hand covered in bandages".
"You can call her Diana. No need to be on last name basis" Hermione said as she flipped through the pages of The Daily Prophet.
"Easy for you to say Hermione. She doesn't hate you" Ron said as he shoved his mouth with bacon.
"She doesn't hate you. She just chooses to be more independent. She's only the slightest but more lenient with me because I've shared a room with her since we were eleven" Hermione told him.
"Her hand, Hermione. What happened?" Harry asked again. Hermione sighed and put the paper down, "she wouldn't tell me. It looked like she put her hand in the fire or-".
"Is she mental? Who raised her? Lunatics?"Ron asked. Hermione smacked him on the back of the head.
"I said it looked like it. I don't know what actually happened. But you can't go around saying something like that. It's very rude" Hermione said while glaring at him.
Meanwhile Diana was back in her room. She grabbed the grimoire that she hid under the couch the previous night and had brought it up to her dormitory. Diana hid it underneath her bed with an invisibility spell. She grabbed a spare piece of parchment and a pen, because as she put it 'quills are on the dumber side of all the great thing Hogwarts has that are different than the normal world'.
Dear mom,
My first day went worse than the last two years. I was practicing a spell that I found in your grimoire and it worked well for a while but then it changed colors from yellow to blue... it was then transformed from light to fire and it burned my hand. It wasn't normal fire either. The nurse treated it with magical remedies but it didn't fully heal.I was wondering if you knew why this has happened. And if you've ever done something like this... I don't know, maybe I'm just a horrible Bennett witch.
Please write back soon. I couldn't get a proper goodbye from you, not that I don't love aunt Caroline and the twins but you know it's not the same.
Love, Diana.
Diana put the letter in an envelope and wrote Bonnie's name on the front. She then used a teleportation spell and just prayed that it worked.
Diana got showered and got dressed as she had been wearing her clothes from yesterday. Afterwards Diana went to her first class of the day, Divination.
When she made it she looked for a place to sit and saw Hermione signaling for Diana to sit with her. Diana hesitated but seeing as the only other available seat was with Malfoy, Parkinson , and Zabini, Diana gladly sat with Hermione.
Diana never had a problem with Blaise, Pansy got on her nerves but Diana managed, it was Draco who bothered her the most.
Hermione was sitting next to Ron and Harry. "What a load of rubbish" Hermione said. "Where did you come from?" Ron asked, not noticing both girls sitting at the table next to them.
"Me? I've been here all this time" Hermione said. Ron turned to Diana, who nodded.
Ron shook his head and changed the subject. "You missed breakfast completely, aren't you hungry?" Ron asked. "Nice of you to worry about me, Weasley" Diana said.
She felt Hermione tap her leg. When Diana looked down she say Hermione had wrapped toast in a napkin and gave it to her.
Hermione smiled at her. "Thanks, Hermione" Diana smiled as she accepted the toast. "Since when are you two on first name basis?" Harry asked slightly annoyed, but he couldn't figure out why.
"Right... thanks, Granger" Diana joked. Hermione scoffed and played along "your welcome, Bennett".
Harry and Ron exchanged a look but when they received a glare from both Hermione and Diana the boys looked at the table.
Class started shortly after and Diana had already finished the two pieces of toast that Hermione had saved her. Hermione was beyond annoyed with the class already, which was new to her.
Diana was only half paying attention as she stared into Hermione tea cup. Hermione did the same for Diana's but they both exchanged a look and set the cups down and focused on something else.
"So you're gonna suffer... but be happy about it?" Ron questioned as he flipped the pages trying to identify Harry's cup.
"Give me the cup" Trelawney said. She held it for approximately two seconds before setting it down and backing away dramatically.
Harry looked stunned and Ron looked worried. But both Diana and Hermione looked annoyed.
"My dear, you have... the Grim" the professor said.
"The Grin? What's the Grin?" Seamus asked. "Not the Grin, you idiot. The Grim" Bem told Seamus.
"Taking form of a giant spectral dog. It's among the darkest omens in our world. It's an omen... of death" Bem read out loud to the class.
