Chapter 55 - Chase
[Christian’s POV]
This quiet place brings me comfort and relaxation, but my emotions tell me otherwise. Anger and confusion are evident on my face, a frown lies above my eyes and my lips pout. Suddenly this party has turned into something else, something that involves past memories coming back to life.
“I don’t appreciate you sending those texts to me when I told you I am currently dating someone.”
Elicia stands before me, the surroundings turn out to be some sort of laundry with the door firmly locked so no drunken idiots come crashing into our serious conversation. Her short red hair is standing on her shoulders as she looks up to me with guilt etched into her eyes. I can tell she is not happy with me telling her off for acting the way she felt with me five years ago. Our relationship is well and truly over and now she is suddenly trying to get me back? I don’t get it.
“Then if you’re dating someone else, why did you come running to me when you saw me?” She asks me with a strong voice, placing a hand on her hip while knitting her thin eyebrows together. She does have a point, I remember seeing her for the first time and forgetting about Aimee right next to me. Elicia was someone I wasn’t expecting tonight and things needed to be said between us.
I just sigh and shake my head, pinching my tired eyes closed. Tension has risen between us and it still continues to rise as we stand here. The light above us is dimmed, making the whole place look dark with shadows lurking everywhere. We hear the occasional scream go past the door, automatically knowing its some drunk person landing into the crowd of people lining up to use that nasty bathroom. Looking back up to Elicia, she has broken our eye contact and is looking past me. I don’t know what to say to her now that I’ve notified her about her texts. I don’t know whether she will stop or continue them.
“Well, I better get back to my job, since I’m being paid.” She speaks in a soft voice, trying to ease the tension. I nod my head stepping aside to let her pass me to get to the door. She scurries past me, unlocking the door before turning her back and facing me again. Her face is blank, seeing hints of disappointment in her small black eyes.
I nod my head and produce a little smile as a sign of goodbye. She does the same and slips through the small gap of the door. She disappears from my sight and all I’m left with is myself and my thoughts. I hate thinking about my past and it always seems to make its way back into my mind every single day.
But I quickly snap out of it and refocus on my girlfriend, Aimee. I haven’t seen her in over a half hour and I’m starting to worry about where she is and who she’s with. She has probably given up trying to find me because who would look into a room like this?
Sighing again, I make my way out of the laundry, avoiding the partygoers running around everywhere. The smell of the toilet reeks and poisons my senses. I scurry away as fast as I can, returning back to the dance floor where it is full with jumping people thrusting against each other. The DJ is playing the latest party hits out there, keeping the crowd entertained with the thumping beats and the colourful lights emitting from a small disco ball going round and round.
Getting back to my task, I start looking for Aimee, basically squeezing my way through the dance floor. She’s not dancing so I look outside where half naked and fully naked girls rest on the shoulders of guys in the pool throwing them into the water where the clear liquid splashes onto my feet. Looking for a black dress is hard because it’s such a common colour for a party dress that a lot of girls wear them. Shaking my head, my anxiety increases as she’s not outside either.
Coming to a more quiet place of the frat house, I see Celine sitting with Sherri on the couch, laughing and smiling together. I make my way over to them, tapping Celine on her shoulder. She looks up to me with a wide grin, flicking her hair back in a flirtatious way. I know she’s trying to get me, but nothing will make me fall for her again. I just roll my eyes and open my mouth, raising my voice over the music.
