Chapter 22 - Misleading
The day couldn’t get any better than standing in a queue to buy movie tickets with Christian. My stomach is full from lunch, filling myself up with pizza, a milkshake and fries. It amazes me how I’m still energetic now, ready to take on anything that gets in my way.
“What movie do you want to watch?” Christian’s manly voice snaps me from my daze as I shake my head, clearing my vision that was frozen on his beautiful face. I hadn’t actually thought about what movie I’d wanted to see before I came here, I just wanted to spend time with Christian and call it a date. I scan through the list of movies on the screen behind the ticket sellers, not really sure what any of them are about.
“You choose. I don’t really mind.” Giving him a promising smile, he turns his head to the screen as well, taking advantage of my suggestion. Within a couple of seconds, he turns his head back towards mine, opening his mouth with a sly smile.
“Can we please watch the new Transformers movie?” His voice sounds pleading, but in a cute sort of way. He looks at me with wide eyes, waiting for my approval. I nod my head, producing a girly smile. Going by the way he asked me about the new Transformers movie, I know that he’s into those types of films. He responds with a smile, confirming the movie we are going to watch. The queue shuffles forward, leaving us at the front of the line, waiting to be served next.
“Have you seen the other Transformers movies?” Christian asks. I slightly shake my head, turning pink. He chuckles, giving me a dimpled smile. I admire him from my spot, taking in every little thing I see. His side view is so beautiful; his sharp jawline defining his face and brining out the bold look he wears everyday. I can never get enough of him.
Our turn comes around, buying our tickets to the movie that starts in twenty minutes. I offered to pay for my ticket, but Christian pushed his money in further before I could. Then I realised this is definitely a date.
“Shall we wait around…?” Christian points to the cinema corridor that leads to the multiple cinema theatres once we drift away from the queue. I nod, sitting myself down next to him on a comfy chair. I watch the many people walk past, either exiting the cinemas or entering to wait to go in. I see a group of three girls chatting over the top of themselves, looking like upper class girls that just came out of a chick flick. They look around my age, maybe younger. They also remind me of Celine, Sherri and Tiffany. Pretty, popular and confident.
Then a thought comes to my mind. Celine said that she likes Christian, and that they are in a lot of classes together. I wonder what they get up to? Something tells me to ask Christian, but I kind of feel like I’m intruding on their friendship. It wouldn’t be right for me to get all nosy and start asking pointless questions. But my gut is going with my first choice, so I lean over to Christian and start making a friendly conversation, not intending to start trouble.
“So, you and Celine are pretty close right?” Damn it, I chose the worst words to describe their relationship. Then Christian would actually go along with it and think I’m jealous. But Christian just nods his head and laces his hands together, licking his lips as he sucks in air to speak.
“Yeah, I really like her actually. We have so much in common.” Christian’s voice sounds excited and happy, like he’s proud to be talking about Celine. Are they… really close? My stomach turns inside, putting me in a vulnerable state. All I can do is listen and keep my emotions to myself, not wanting to sound envious of another girl, even though I am.
“Do you talk with her a lot?” Crossing my leg over the other, I cock my head to the side, making my voice serious, but soft. Christian looks out into the distance, not meeting my eyes in fear of jealousy. Well, I’ve made myself jealous by starting the conversation. Now I won’t be able to get this topic out of my mind.
