Chapter 54 - Hostage
You know when you’ve been partying hard when you feel the pain in your feet from the heels that you regret putting on. That is me right now. It feels like a knife is being stabbed through my feet repeatedly, never seeing an end in sight. But luckily that’s not the case, and they take all of my weight onto a sofa, crashing down on it with Mason and I laughing our heads off.
“That was awesome!” He chuckles, falling down on the sofa with me, trying to contain our laughter. I think the alcohol is talking right now, because I feel like a whole new different person with Mason slouching beside me, his head leaning on my shoulder. The heaviness in my head confirms my drunken state, feeling my headache banging on my skull. Mason finally sits up, turning to face me on the sofa, his small lips extending into a broad smile.
“Want some more drink?” He asks me in a lazy voice, smelling the alcohol on his breath. I nod my head, trying to catch mine in the process. I stare at him with my tired eyes and notice his hair is flat from all the dancing we’ve done. His sweat has contributed to the way it looks and small strands stick to his forehead, almost looking black from the dampness of it.
“Hold on.” I call out as he stands up. He sits back down on the couch, but closer to me, leaning forward to listen to what I have to say. Lifting my arm, I bring it up to his hair, running my fingers through the soft, but wet strands, pulling it up into a quiff. It reminds me of Christian’s hair, the way he styled it for this party. Speaking of Christian, where is he?
“You look better with it up.” I compliment him, admiring my work. His hair is now standing, making him look even hotter than before. He gives me a stare and just walks off, seeing a roll of his eyes as he makes his way into the kitchen for some more of that drink I had tasted earlier. But my thoughts rewind to something that hit me before. Christian. I haven’t seen him since he tensed up in the kitchen. He ran off with no reason and he was acting suspicious. Pulling myself from this couch, I go a bit dizzy while standing, really feeling the booze run to my brain. Although it is keeping me going all night, I better watch the amount from now on even though I’ve lost count of how many cups I’ve had.
I start walking around this frat house, exploring around the dance floor and to the other side where a hallway leads to many open doors. There’s a line leading to a brightly light bathroom, the smell travelling to where I am standing, about five meters away. It reeks of vomit and human waste, immediately turning my back to block the smell. I search outside for him, being splashed with pool water coming from down below. My eyes are now seeing double, triple of everything and my feet are slowing down. The noise of the music from inside still blares in my ears and the water sprinkling onto my feet freezes me, nearly toppling me over.
“Woah, steady.” I hear a female voice say, grabbing a hold of my arms. I shake my head, an image of a young girl in a red dress materialises before my eyes, becoming clearer by the second. Ugh, it’s Celine again.
“Why do you keep coming up to me?” I blurt out, feeling the need to give back her mean words. She takes it by no surprise and just laughs, throwing her head back. Celine points to the side of us, giving me an eyebrow. “Considering I nearly saved you from falling into that pool, I think I deserve something better than that.”
Following to where her finger points, the water looks fresh under my feet, feeling my mouth yearn for liquid to enter my throat. I don’t respond to Celine, I just purse my lips and knit my eyebrows together. “Let’s go inside,” Celine says, pulling me by my arm around the edges of the pool, careful not to bump into anyone. I am too drunk to even realise that this is my enemy who is interacting with me for some weird reason. She’s been giving me kind smiles instead of dagger eyes tonight and all I can think of is what plan she is up to now.
