Chapter 53 - Free

“That was so fun!”

Laughter fills my mind as I slump myself onto a stool in the kitchen. Both my hands hold Christian’s and he displays a smug look on his face as he leans his body closer to mine while he stands, towering over me. I giggle, looking up to him where we plant a long kiss on each other’s lips, closing our eyes to the feeling of our love. My knees part so Christian can come closer to me, and I feel every inch of my body igniting a fire inside, reminding myself that Christian had suggested we take our relationship to the next level. I don’t want to admit it to him, but I really want to do it.

My ears pick up the sound of woo’s, and Christian and I suddenly jerk back, looking around to who made that sound. We see a group of guys in the far corner of the kitchen, all with red cups in their hand, waving at us with smiles on their faces. I blush, realising they had been watching us. Taking a good look at them, their faces ring a bell. Some of them are guys from my maths class, and they wave Christian over to join them. They must be Christian’s friends, I suggest, seeing how Christian smiles back at them. He looks to my for approval and I let him go, rolling my eyes in a cheeky way.

I turn my body around the the counter where the sink and taps are. The drinks are lining every bench this kitchen holds, and the smell of alcohol fills my nostrils, making me feel a bit woozy just by sitting in my spot. But as my eyes are about to blink, they fly wide open as someone taps me on my shoulder, making me turn around to face the person who I feared would be here tonight. Celine.

“Hello Celine. What are you doing here?” I ask sternly with slitted eyes and furrowed eyebrows. I use a disgusted voice to express my disliking for her, but her fake smile doesn’t wipe off from my tone. Tonight she wears a skimpy red dress that is simple but too much to look at. It’s a very short dress with sleeves that shows a lot of her cleavage, parting down the middle of her chest where her tan skin is visible. Her dark brown hair is in perfect curls tonight, and large silver hoops dangle from her earlobes. Not to mention her black heels are too high to even estimate.

“I’ve just come to apologise for writing those words on your locker and what problems it caused.” She breaks out into a soft, innocent voice, trying to make me believe that she’s truly sorry for doing that. I’m not falling for her apologies, not even this one. Last time she threw me against the lockers and threatened to make my life a living hell. She’s stuck to her word since then, but this time I am not falling for another game. I just have to play along.

“Um, okay?” I say, making a face that screams, “are you serious?”. She doesn’t say anything else apart from stand in my way of Christian talking with his friends. He looks like he is having a great time over there, socialising with guys who treat him properly. I’m proud of Christian for growing out of his comfort zone to make friends when he has a past haunting him everyday. It must be hard for him to juggle school, friends, me and my problems all at the same time. He’s such an angel.

“Anyway, you look gorgeous tonight, Aimee! Christian must be so lucky to have you.” Celine says, placing her hand on my arm, eyeing me from head to toe. My stomach churns as she uses a high voice to compliment me. I wonder if she knows I’m faking this because we’re not friends after what she just said. We will never be friends again after everything she’s done. I just smile and nod, tapping my foot on the ground as I grow impatient.

“Thanks. Christian picked it out for me.” Her smile is removed immediately by what I said, obviously jealous that Christian loves me this much to buy a dress for me. She still doesn’t leave my sight, it’s like she has no friends to hang around. I wonder if Sherri is nearby to escort her away… I look around for anyone else to talk with and suddenly see Mason walking around the benches, eyeing the bottles of alcohol to choose from. I am relieved as I call his name.
