Chapter 56 - Moonless
[Christian’s POV]
The feeling of letting go of the steering wheel gives me relief, noticing how tight my hands were wrapped around the wheel. My pale knuckles have turned an even whiter colour, but the blood rushes back to them as I shake them out in my lap. Quiet now surrounds me, the dark looms into my car. The lights of the buildings create shadows lurking around the car park, still keeping my frown on my face I haven’t wiped since I saw Aimee and Mason together. That shits me.
How can Aimee do something like that to me? She’s better than that and I know it. She once was a quiet, shy, invisible girl, and because of me, she’s changed. But that doesn’t mean she can go cheating on me with some other guy. It pisses me off that we keep crashing down like this, and then get back together. If we want to stay together as long as we can, we can’t keep doing this. My heart keeps breaking and so many pieces are being left behind.
Sighing while shaking my head, I get out of my car and shut the door, locking it as I walk around and towards the entrance. It’s around ten thirty and the party doesn’t end until past midnight. I wonder where Aimee is right now and how she’s going to get home.
The lights in the hallway illuminate the place, making my eyes adjust to the brightness. The hallways are dead silent and empty, with no one around. I bet ninety percent of the college is at that party right now. It’s amazing how all can fit in that frat house. But now I’m that ten percent who is moping around the dorm rooms, waiting for the next day to come.
Nothing seems to come to my mind at the moment, all has been thought about and what else can I say about the situation? The only thoughts I have of it is that it was wrong for Aimee to cheat on me and I should’ve never left her side. All eyes come down to me, blaming me for the problem. Yeah, I guess it is my fault in the first place after all. But Aimee is old enough to be trusted by herself, and it makes me lose my trust in her as the days go by. How can I keep up with that now?
Rounding the corner, I see two girls walking side by side towards me — one on crutches and one keeping up with her — their figures getting bigger as we become closer. Then I examine their facial features and recognise them to be Aimee’s friends, Tibby and Tiffany. They have worried looks on their faces, noticing their wide eyes are on me and they are rushing across the floor. I slow down my pace, just in case they jerk me back and I get even more angry.
“Christian! We have something to tell you!” Tibby exclaims, stammering in front of me while resting on her crutches. I kind of already know what they’re going to tell me, so I put the weight off their shoulders by doing the job myself.
“Yeah I heard — well I saw; Aimee got drunk and she basically cheated on me with Mason.” I roll my eyes with a grunt, looking away and shaking my head. The girls go quiet and stare at me with puppy dog eyes, clinging onto each other like they’re siamese twins. They look at each other awkwardly, me stuffing my hands in my pockets while waiting for them to tell me something else that I already now.
“Oh, well. That’s the easy part out of the way.” Tiffany says, not really sure what she means. I cock my head to the side, creating a confused frown at these girls below me. Tiffany continues, putting me out of my misery. “Celine was behind this. Well, part of it.”
Of course she was. Everything Aimee does is because of Celine. So; Aimee got drunk — Celine forced cups of alcohol into her system. Aimee and Mason went up to a room — Celine persuaded them. My girlfriend and her “friend” are getting heated in a room together — all of Celine’s work lead up to this. Mason pulled out pills — Celine asked Mason to try something out by drugging her with some shit. I don’t actually think those were contraceptives Aimee had in her hand, since she swore she never snuck out of her dorm to go see Mason after hours, but what else could they be?
