First month away
"Look sunshine, it's daddy." Aurora was sitting at the living room, her laptop in front of her. She was video chatting Jackson. Her daughter, Audree, was in her arms.
"Hi little bee. I miss you." Jackson looked at her, a big smile on his face. Aubree moved her tiny hands at the screen trying to reach her dad. "Look how big you've already gotten!" He laughed and then looked at Aurora. "Hey."
"Hi." She tried to smile, but things between them hadn't been the greatest. But when she left she promised him that she was going to call him everyday so he could talk to his daughter. It wasn't the same in the slightest, but Jackson agreed. He was being patient with everything that was going on. He was going to spend the next month with her so he was holding on for a little more to the video calls.
They were both trying to be as fair to each other when it came to their daughter, but when it came to them, that's a different story. They hadn't said anything about the fact that they were leaving apart and they were still married. They haven't talked about Jackson not wanting to follow her away from Seattle or Aurora not even considering staying there.
None of them wanted to fight.
"Did you start at the new hospital?" Jackson tried to have a casual conversation with her. He still cared for her, if she was doing okay. He loved her, no matter what.
"Uh, yes. It's good. Great doctors, really cool cases everyday." Aurora replied to him, her eyes focusing at the background behind him and not at home face. Never on his face. She knew that if she looked at him she was going to break down. "It's nice working with Callie again, so there's that."
"Did you decide on specialty or not yet?"
"Um, I am having some trouble. Every time I decide, something happens and I second guess again; but I have to decide with the boards coming up." She said, feeling awkward. It wasn't supposed to be like that.
"Well, for what is worth I still think you'd be great in plastics. You have the brain and the hands. And it's calm, it'll give you some inner peace." Jackson told her.
"Well, my therapist is saying that I should find my own path. Do not follow what people in my life used to do."
"You're going to therapy?" He asked.
"Uh, yeah... Anyway, are you okay?"
"I'm trying. I miss Audree and I miss... you." He confessed. "Come back Ari, please."
"Jackson, we've talk about this. I can't be there. Not after everything that has happened there. I respected that you wanted to stay. Can you please respect that I can't be there?" She took a breath, not wanting to fight in front of their baby. "Look, I have to put her to sleep." She looked at Audree who has her finger in her mouth. Aurora took the pacifier from the table and put it in Audree's mouth.
