Easter
Laughter filled Aurora's room. They had moved her out of the ICU as she was doing better, but they still kept her in for few more days just to be sure.
"Do you have any pictures? I need a picture." Aurora laughed, she truly laughed after many, many days. Stephanie was walking around the peds floor wearing a bunny costume. "I can't believe I missed it. I want to get out of this bed so bad." She complained.
"Hey, you survived something really bad, give yourself time." Jo said softly and she smiled at her friend.
About a month had gone by since the accident, since Derek's death. And even though things remained the same - apart from Meredith leaving Seattle - everything just felt so different, and so wrong. There wasn't much Aurora could experience from the hospital bed, but she could see the look on everyone's eyes as they visited her. The grief of losing their colleague, their friend, their family. She wasn't doing a good job at grieving. She was still in denial of the whole thing. Probably because she couldn't even be at his funeral. Because she never got to say goodbye to him. She spent so much time alone in the room, that the thoughts were getting too much for her. Losing Derek was just too much. And she couldn't come to terms with losing both of them. She hadn't even recover for Mark's death, how could see recover from Derek's?
A knock on the door interrupted their conversation and Aurora looked up to see Jackson standing in the doorway smiling down at her. Jackson had really been trying to be there for her. But something was different about him too. The fact the he almost lost her took something from him, and he could see in how much pain she was. He felt lost, but he still tried to make her feel as better as possible. Even though she wouldn't let him.
"We're going to go. I have to continue with the bunny parade around the peds floor." Stephanie groaned a little making Aurora chuckle. Jackson smiled at the two girls and walked inside the room once they were gone.
"Hey." Aurora said quietly. Jackson stared at her for good ten seconds without saying anything. It seemed like a dream that she was actually okay and he tried to cherish the moment. "Are you okay?" She asked him as she couldn't take the silence.
"Yeah, sorry" he shook his head just to snap about of it. "So do you want to come home with me tonight?" He asked her.
"I can go home?" She exclaimed and it was the greatest news she had heard in ages.
"I just spoke with Webber. He said that you can go home as long as you continue resting. So I am going to take the next days off and spend them with you at our house, okay?" He looked at her so lovingly that for a moment Aurora forgot that anything had happened.
But it had all happened. Everything was true and just plain... painful.
