...You sit on the edge of the dock, closing your eyes as warm light envelops you, the Soul Stone dissipating. When you open them, you're back at the cabin, the world awash in orange light. As you take in your surroundings, you're surprised by a hug surrounding you. Instinctually, you move to take them down without thinking, but as you move your unknown assailant's arms and twist them, you catch sight of your father's face. You quickly drop his hands.
Tony just blinks at you, his face inscrutable.
After a few beats, you speak. "Well. This is just fine and dandy."
"Oh?"
"All this time thinking of what I wish I had said before you died, what I would say if I could see you again, and now that I can I've got no fucking idea."
"Mhmm." Tony makes a noncommittal noise.
You sigh, frustrated, turning your gaze back to the water. "Aren't you going to say anything?"
Tony moves to sit beside you. "What do you want me to say?"
You laugh bitterly. "I dunno. Pretty sure this is just a dream, so hell, how about something you never said. 'Hey, Y/n, I care about you.'"
"I did say that."
"No, you tried to show it. Not the same thing. And gifts do nothing for me. You'd know that if you were ever there."
Tony doesn't respond, causing you both to sit in silence for few moments. Then, "So tell me. Why'd you run away?"
You shrug. "What else was I supposed to do?"
"Not run away? Pretty obvious."
"Where would you have me live, huh?"
Tony sighs, shaking his head. "With Pepper. Hell, with Rhodey and the Avengers. Anywhere other than a cheap hostel."
"Actually, I got an apartment finally."
Tony rolls his eyes. "Great. So much better." He sighs, growing serious. "Why not live with Pep?"
"She's got enough on her plate," you respond vaguely.
"And the compound?"
Your stare at the water morphs to a glare. "I can't be around them. Not yet, at least."
