⚠️Trigger Warning: cutting⚠️

———

You came home from school and went to your room, crying. You were glad that everyone else was on a mission, and Peter was at Ned's—you had the whole Tower to yourself.

When you got to your room, you dumped your book bag on the floor, too done to do homework. And lord knows you had a lot.

You went to the bathroom, the thoughts torturing you as you looked in the mirror. You grabbed your nearby razor, drawing it across your arms in neat lines. You were running out of space—both arms were nearly covered in scars.

With each stroke of the razor, each drop of blood, the voices diminished, until they were silent. You stood there crying a moment longer, then dried your tears and rinsed the razor. You began to take care of your arm when you realized you were out of bandages.

Fuck.

You'd have to go to the lab, but thankfully, no one was home.

Famous last words.

As you step out into the hallway, having mostly stopped the bleeding but still holding it out to keep your clothes from getting stained, you walk to the elevator and move to press the UP button, unaware that the elevator is already moving.

You barely reach for it when the elevator ding!s and the doors open. Your face becomes horrified as you are caught, quickly hiding your arms behind your back.

Shit, you cursed, shoulda worn a hoodie. Why had you taken it off in the first place?

Thankfully, the others were too caught up in their own conversations to notice. But when you quickly switched your arms in front of you so they wouldn't be noticed, Nat realized that something was going on, even if she didn't see the scars themselves.

You walked into the elevator as they got off, nodding in greeting so as not to interrupt their conversations. You move to press the button but hold the DOOR OPEN button until Nat gets off.

She doesn't.

She just stands there with her arms crossed, tapping her foot. "Close the door," she commanded.

Sighing, you obeyed. Nat was basically your mother now, and regardless, it doesn't do to ignore her—everyone on the team knew that.

As soon as you closed the door and pressed the button for the floor of Tony's lab, where the bandages were, Nat leaned over and switched the EMERGENCY STOP switch, halting the elevator. She looked at you, cocking an eyebrow. "So, what's behind your back?"

Your face paled, but you stood up straighter and mirrored her expression. "Nothing. Why?" You played it off nonchalantly.

"Hold out your arms."

You didn't respond or move.

"Look, (y/n), we can do this the easy way or the hard way, okay?" Nat warned.

When you still didn't do as she asked, she sighed and twisted your arms to where she could see them.

At the sight of the scars, some old, some still fresh and bleeding a little, her face became rigid and her voice deathly calm. "(Y/n)..."

"I'm sorry," you whispered, looking down at your feet and hiding your arms again.

Nat sucked in a breath and closed her eyes, standing there silent for a moment. When she opened them, she walked over to you and pulled you into a hug.

After a moment, she pulled back, lifting your chin to look you in the eyes. "We need to go get Bruce to-"

Your eyes widened and you shook your head. "No, please don't!" You interrupted frantically. "Can it just be between you and me? Please don't tell him, or anyone else!"
