I heard the beep of the phone

Max: Come in

Ace: I hope I'm not interrupting

Max: How long have you been there?

There was anger in his voice

Ace: Not very

He took a step towards me

Max: You wouldn't lie to me would you Ace?

Ace: Never

I could tell he was searching my eyes for something.

Max: Tell me, what did you hear?

Ace: " Isn't she just amazing." Then I knocked and you said you had to go.

While we were talking he kept moving closer to me causing me to move away. My back was against the wall. His knee in between my legs.

Ace: I'm sure your girlfriend is amazing. I hope I didn't ruin anything

Max: You didn't, but you shouldn't eavesdrop

Of course he has a girlfriend. How could he not ?

Ace: Maybe this was a bad idea

Max: What do you mean?

Ace: I don't want your girlfriend to be mad at you because of me

Max: I want you here

You do?

Ace: Are you sure?

Max: Yes

Ace: Then I'll stay, but if your girlfriend tells you I'm a problem. I'm gone.

Max: Swear on your life

Ace: I'd rather swear on yours

I laughed at him

Max: You think it's funny?

He put his hand beside my head

Ace: And you think it isn't

Max: Well that's not the goal at all

Ace: So what is your goal?

Max: I need to know that you're as serious about this job that I am. I know my girlfriend is different, but sometimes we might have late nights. Can you handle that?

Ace: I think I can handle this professor, the question is can you ?

Max: I think I can

Ace: You still want me to swear?

Max: No, I trust you, but I don't want you to feel uncomfortable

Ace: I won't, but I suggest you let me go before someone sees us.

He stepped away from me and I sat in my chair next to his desk.I put everything he asked for on the desk and looked at him.

Ace: So, what now?

Max: There are a few things you should know. I don't like liars and I hate keeping secrets. You need to know these things. And understand if I find out you're lying to me...

Why is he telling me this?

Ace: You'll what, punish me? Professor, I understand that this job means a lot to you. It means more to me, I want to be an English teacher someday. But that being said, you must understand I am not stupid.

I wonder why he acts all " Fifty Shades of Gray", but something tells me he is more five shades of beige.

About a month went by and I kinda forgot about the interaction I had with Max. It seemed like we both had. I brought him a coffee and sat in my chair. We worked for about an hour before he put his pen down and ran his fingers through his hair.
