Dale came to hug me and once she pulled away, there he was, grinning at me.

"I didn't know he was out, I swear" Patrick whispered to me.

"Happy birthday!" Hillary said and hugged me "we got him out just for you"

"Great" I mumbled sarcastically into the hug making her pull away and look at me funny, but she didn't ask why.

"Happy birthday runaway." Joe was the next to greet me with Andy by his side as I avoided eye contact with pete a few feet away. I gave them a quick thanks and navigated to the kitchen where Dale had announced cake.

"Hey." Pete had walked up to me without me noticing.

"Er, I'll be back." Patrick said and quickly disappeared giving Pete and I space.

"Hey." I said crossing my arms.

"Look I'm sorry. I'm happy you're here, I was just scared for you." Pete said.

"I drove all the way here just to be with you, after stealing a car. I spent a week stealing stuff to get the money to get here, just for you to act like an ass and make me regret it. You're so good at always finding a way to break my heart." I said.

"I'm sorry and I know I'm an ass, but I love you Autumn Jane. I just want everything to be okay." He said sadly.

"I just want you to recognize I can do things on my own. I don't need you." I said angrily and walked off.

"Autumn, candles." I heard Dale call for me in the kitchen. I smiled at an attempt to cover my broken spirit from everyone as I walked into the kitchen. The kitchen table was surrounded by everyone with a cake lit up with candles in the middle. Dale smiled widely as she pulled be over and everyone began to sing happy birthday.

Right beside me to my left was my best friend singing up a storm with a smile under his glasses and hat. I was urged to blow out all eighteen of the candles and everyone smiled.

I got a few presents, mostly clothes and novel things, but they were sweet gifts.

After everyone had left Patrick, Hillary and I were watching TV on the couch.

"How did your talk with Pete go?" Patrick asked.

"Patrick told me everything" Hillary interrupted "and obviously not very well or else he'd be sitting here right now."

"Shut up Hillary" Patrick retorted.

"She's got a point" I teased Patrick.

"Why do both of you hate me so much?" He joked.

"We don't, and Hillary definitely doesn't" I said as I winked at Patrick. Saying that earned me a smack on the arm from Hillary for revealing her secret.

"Okay, let's just address that elephant in the room." Hillary began and sat up on the couch to look at Patrick. "I like you" Patrick stared at her for a moment.

"I need to use the bathroom!" He blurted out and dcurried to his feet quickly and took off.

"Damn, how's that for rejection?" Hillary laughed.

"Dudes can be weird, like all the time. Especially Patrick. "I said making her laugh again.

In a moment Patrick came back into the room and sighed and stood in front of us as we looked up at him curiously from the couch.

"Here's the deal" he said looking and sounding nervous. "Hillary I'm sorry, but I don't like you like that. I do however, now, think you are a really good person. But I like Autumn." He stated out of the corner of my eye I saw Pete leaning in the kitchen door way with his arms crossed and so did Hillary. "I mean I really like Autumn, like everything about her." He continued.

"Uh Patrick" Hillary warned but Patrick just continued.

"Your eyes are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, and your smile is insane. I try my best not yo be as much of an ass as Pete is to you, I try to be a good friend but sometimes it's just so frustrating"

"Patrick." I said with a scared expression on my face as my eyes darted from him to Pete still standing in the door way.

"No, I have to say this or its going to drive me crazy. I just want you to know how much I care about you and that I would never hurt you, ever."

"Patrick! Pete's standing in the damned kitchen doorway!" Hillary blurted out making Patrick finally take notice.

"Oh hell." Patrick said with dread as he looked at Pete.

"Fine." Pete finally spoke "you're right, if you think your so much better than me you can have her." Pete said then looked at me "cause all I ever did for you was break your heart, right?"

"You know what?" Patrick said to Pete sounding a bit scared and angry. "If I could of finished my speech you would of also heard that she has no interest in me what so ever, she loved you. I'm not so sure about that anymore because of the way you treat her. You lost the girl everyone wants and you think you have the right to be pissy about it you.. you ass hole!" Patrick screamed at Pete who didn't even flinch at the words.

"Let's go home Patrick." I said calmly.

"Yeah" he said and I took his arm as we walked out of the house.
