"You're here?"
Seeing Josh in the streets of the town far from where I thought he would be shocked my entire self. I imagined how furious the Chief will be once she hints at Josh's whereabouts. Liam and the girl named Mirena arrived at the place where I saw Serena.
"I guess so," Josh answered scornfully and walked past me. He went near Liam and gave him a bag.
"Serena!" shouted Mirena. She rushed to her wounded sister and wiped off her face from all the tears and dirt.
"What are you doing here?" Liam asked Josh who was placing his sword inside the leather track which was on his belt.
"Tracking down survivors, what more would I be doing?" answered Josh filling his words with the sarcasm he can take.
Serena and Mirena held each other's hands as they stick beside Liam. It was visible in Mirena's eyes that her sister was the one that completed her empty spaces. "We should leave this place as soon as possible, I saw soldiers roaming the area earlier, they're meant to kill."
With Josh's warning, we started to walk through the village, carefully sighting for survivors. We saw another boy who hid under rocks, we scouted him along with our convoy. Hours passed, we gathered six spared people who spent their time secreting themselves from the soldiers who were commanded to kill any living person spotted.
"Jill!"
I was counting my arrows before Liam called me out. Beside him was Mirena who can't even lay her eyes on me. She must be frightened because of my appearance and physique. "This is Mirena, she wanted to thank you for saving her sister,"
Mirena took steps forward and held my hands. "I can't thank you enough for what you did to my sister, she's the only one I have, w-without..."
She stuttered as her tears started to break free from her eyes. "Without her I have nothing,"
I was stunned, my breath took itself out of me when her words struck me to the head. It was the same words, the same phrase, same emotion. I saw myself in her when she spoke of how important her sister was to her. It reminded me of how I acted when my mother passed away, leaving me alone. I had a hard time, a very hard time moving on from what I suffered in the past.
"Don't worry, she's safe," I softly uttered and it brightened her face.
"Thank you," she answered.
I gave her a slight smile and slowly loosened my grip on her hand but before I can leave and turn around, she mentioned my name. "Jill,"
I turned to her and watched her speak. "Let me serve you, my loyalty for you is immeasurably true,"
My lips parted as soon as I heard her. "No, no. You don't have to, just take care of your sister," I immediately refused.
