I remember what you wore on the first day
You came into my life and I thought hey
You know, this could be something
'Cause everything you do and words you say
You know that it all takes my breath away
And now I'm left with nothing
So maybe it's true that I can't live without you
And maybe two is better than one
But there's so much time to figure out the rest of my life
And you thought that it got me coming undone
And I'm thinking two is better than one
I remember every look upon your face
The way you roll your eyes, the way you taste
You make it hard for breathing
'Cause when I close my eyes and drift away
I think of you and everything's okay
I'm finally now believing
Then maybe it's true that I can't live without you
Maybe two is better than one
But there's so much time to figure out the rest of my life
And you thought that it got me coming undone
And I'm thinking two is better than one
I remember what you wore on the first day
You came into my life and I thought, hey
Maybe it's true that I can't live without you
Maybe two is better than one
There's so much time to figure out the rest of my life
And you thought that it got me coming undone
And I'm thinking, ooh, I can't live without you
'Cause, baby, two is better than one
There's so much time to figure out the rest of my life
But I'll figure out with all that's said and done
Two is better than one, two is better than one
I knocked my alarm clock off the table as the song played through the airwaves, listening to the song in its entirety as a result of being too tired to pick it up. The darkness of winter kept everything looking as if it were cloaked in night's warm embrace, sending an almost calming chill up and down my spine. I liked the darkness and the memories that were made within it. Things such as being young and hiding within blanket forts with my older brother, and experiencing my first kiss on Eliza Bates' bed. The night wasn't just a time for sleep, but a time for coming alive. I laid silently in bed and listened as the radio changed from Boys Like Girls to commercials, the noises easing my mind. I pulled my hand from under the cover and placed it in the moonlight, my once sun kissed skin now pale like the moon's glow. I looked at my arm and touched over the areas where David had once touched. I hadn't spoken to David in weeks, and I didn't mind it. I needed time to be alone and find myself once again even if it meant sacrificing one of my newest treasures. I found myself with Benn almost always, having no other friends. When I came home from David's with a black and blue face, things went almost exactly as one would expect. I didn't speak a word of who did it or why, which lead my mother to believe something even worse was happening. Our mutual agreement was that I could no longer isolate myself amongst others at school. Friends, as she called it.
It was now Saturday which meant group sessions. It was basically a group of kids all fucked up in their mental, each one ranting about their parents, or not having friends, or being touched by their daddies as kids, or how they'd snort crack off a homeless man's ass it he'd be the one buying.
What does that make you if you're sitting there as well?
I grabbed my phone from my bedside table and unlocked the screen, the loud unlocking of the iPhone causing me to glare due to how stupid I was for not silencing it. Three messages from Benn. Nothing abnormal. I crawled out of bed and made my way to the glass table loitering under the larger window that took nearly half of the wall. I pulled the record player my Nana had given me from under the table, sighing loudly as I pulled out one of the records from the large box of them.
