It all went by in a haze. A quick, drug fueled haze.
Anything can be fixed with the right chemical mixture coursing through your veins, from failed relationships to legal troubles, it all seems to melt away when you're up, but coming down makes it all much worse than the original sting.
I had spent more time with Jacob than anyone else I'd ever met in my life. Every waking moment, I felt like I was with him. My parents didn't seem to mind, in fact, in their eyes, I seemed to be doing much better. I was going to school, socializing, even bringing girls around, all of which were thanks to the various drugs I was given.
"This one will really fuck you up."
Or
"This shit is stronger than anything I've given to you before."
Were phrases I learned to live for. Each passing day passed in a montage of snorting lines of white powder, or swallowing various shaped and colored pills.
I couldn't remember how the holidays went. In fact, I couldn't remember anything about the holidays until weeks later when I had found my unwrapped gifts in my bedroom on the floor.
With the new year came new expectations to be better than the year before. A new year, a new chance at pretending the possibility of changing from the damned being to a fully functioning, grade A citizen was humanly capable. I, however, was too high to pretend that lying to myself was even worth it.
Court had gone well, and I earned the lightest slap on the wrist humanly possible, receiving a work book on drug and alcohol abuse, along with community service that was finished in a matter of a week. All in all, life was turning around. Day by day, as long as the drugs didn't run out, my depression stayed away, my anxiety vanished, and the voices in my head nearly silent.
I sat on my bed, white pill in hand, water in the other, music flushing out the silence of the small, empty house, both my parents having gone to work, leaving me alone with a bedroom full of stashed drugs. I swallowed the pill before grabbing a cigarette from the pack beside my bed, opening the bedroom window as I lit the white stick, taking a long draw from it before exhaling slowly, the, familiar feeling of nicotine entering my system causing me to smile. I bit my bottom lip while pulling my phone from my back pocket, opening the message strand between Dave and I, biting my bottom lip until it turned white.
'Hey.'
I sent, sighing as I wait for the response. I had refused to speak to David after being arrested, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss him. The small moments of being sober, he was the one person on my mind, though when the drugs entered my system, his existence became nearly nonexistent to me.
'Let me see you. Please. I need to see you.'
Was the response I earned, a sick smirk covering my face as I realized how far he had thrown the ball in my court.
'I'm at home if you want to see me.'
I purred with satisfaction at the response, and fifteen minutes later, the loud rumble of Dave's truck was heard from my bedroom, the rumble coming to an abrupt end and the sound of a truck door slamming shut confirming any doubts I may have had as to if he was outside or not. Seconds passed and the knock at the door had me springing from my bed, a mix of anxiety and excitement mixing in the pit of my stomach. I opened the door, and the sight of David made my heart leap without hesitation.
"Andrew." He quietly spoke, my eyes scanning him over as my pupils began to dilate, the familiar feeling of the pills beginning to set in.
"Come in." I breathed, heart picking up it's pace in my chest. Jacob would kill me if he knew I was seeing Dave, instantly end the supply of drugs if he knew, yet something about Dave mesmerized me in the moment, far more than any pill or powder ever could, and before I could register my movements, I was pulling him back to my bedroom.
