My name is Andrew John Velasquez. I am sixteen years old, gay, and I had sex with a boy who will surely kill me. My mother and father hate each other, along with me, and my brother refuses to return my calls. I'm sick. Mentally and physically. My mother feels bad for me. I can see it in her eyes whenever I express my feelings, or even when I don't. I'm failing all my classes other than English, and that's thanks to Bennett doing all my assignments for me, because he can't stand to see my fail and do nothing to try and help me. I haven't spoken to David in weeks, but I don't care. It's nearly Thanksgiving break and I can't wait to get away from the entire student body of Compass High School. I'm not keeping this journal for myself, but for the sake of counseling and getting out early.

I read over the entry and huffed loudly, no longer wishing to continue. The fact was, my counselor, Timothy, told me if I filled out a journal I would be able to finish my sessions with him before planned and be done by the end of the school year rather than finishing by next Christmas.

Therapist. Not counselor.

I mentally slapped myself for calling him a counselor yet again. I'm fucked up and I know it, therefore why do
I continue to soften the blow? Maybe because I'm the one refusing to believe it. I began losing myself in my thoughts of how badly I managed to screw my own life when I felt my phone vibrate.

Bennett:
'Did you do your homework or do I need to finish a second copy?'

I read the message and laughed loudly, almost sadly at the trust behind it.

'I didn't do it.'

I sent, itching my nose after and clicking the pen I was writing with moments before.

'I should start charging you.'

Bennett's response evoked a loud laugh from myself and I quickly clapped my hands over my mouth.

'I didn't ask for this lifestyle of you helping me.'

I sent with a small smirk.

"Andrew!" I heard my mother's voice call out, causing me to jump. I dropped my phone and quickly scurried to her room, sitting on her bed with a huff.

"Reporting for duty." I answered, watching as she laid with her eyes covered from the light.

"Baby, please. Just get me my painkillers. I have a terrible headache." She asked with her lip between her teeth. I nodded and got off the large bed, closing the bathroom door behind me before flicking on the light, grabbing the orange bottle of white pills. I poured them in my hand, slipping one of them under my tongue before getting one for her, putting the rest back. I quickly dumped the pill in her hand before running back to my room, grabbing a bottle of water and swallowing it down.

And I'm not a pill popper. I just dabble in the pharmaceutical industry.

I scribbled down, grinning to myself in self satisfaction at the joke.

Dad:
'Check the shed for my drill. I'll be home in 30.'

"Yay. Just gonna drill my eyes out before you make it back." I muttered under my breath, getting off my bed to grab shoes and and the keys to the shed. I stumbled outside, hissing at the cold air that was now nipping at my exposed skin. I moved the long strands of dark down hair done my eyes as I crossed my arms over my chest, having only a pair of black basketball shorts and a thin black hoodie to shield me from the cold November air. I shivered as I grabbed for the lock, unlocking it after having tried the wrong key.

"Fucking hell." I breathed, able to see my own breath float upward to the cloudy sky. I stepped in the shed and moved several boxes around, dropping one and earning a loud crash of breaking glass in return.
