I followed Hayden to his truck, throwing my things in the back before climbing inside and slamming the door shut, the lump in my throat only hurting me more and more as time went on. He pushed the key in the ignition before turning up the music all the way, the guitars and drums blaring.
"What is this?" I called over the music, raising a brow. He grinned and turned it down only for a moment.
"Slipknot." He yelled, turning it back up. We pulled up to the exit before being stopped by a monitor, Hayden sighing loudly.
"Tom, my man." He grunted, pulling his wallet from his pocket and slipping out the small plastic card, sticking it in his mouth while pushing the pack of cigarettes back into his pocket before Tom noticed. He handed the card to Tom, sucking on the ring in his lip.
"And him?" Tom asked, adjusting the sunglasses on his face. Hayden's head fell back with a loud groan.
"C'mon, Tom. You let Escamilla take random underclassmen all the time." He sighed, sweeping his hair from his face.
"You know just as well as I do that it's just because I owe the damn kid's dad a favor, boy." He said sternly, the dark mustache of his upper lip rising and falling.
"Fine, but it's just this once." He said, stepping back from the truck. He pressed the green button, allowing the arm to lift, and Hayden to pull forward.
"And this is why I love you, Tom." Hayden called, hitting the outer side of his truck door before rolling up the window and pulling the pack of cigarettes from his pocket.
"Get my lighter from my backpack, would'ya?" He asked, pulling a cigarette from the pack and placing it between his teeth. I grabbed for his backpack, pulling out various bags and papers before getting the dark blue lighter from the bottom of the bag, handing it to him before beginning to clean up the mess.
"Want one?" He asked once he had lit his, inhaling the thick smoke, blowing it out only seconds later. I shook my head no, feeling my lungs tighten.
"Asthma. No thanks." I said, offering a small smile. He rolled down the window and nodded.
"Shit. Sorry. Do you want me to put this out, or?" He asked blowing the smoke out the window this time. I shook my head no quickly, zipping up his bag.
"You're good." I smiled, keeping my eyes trained on the road in front of us. He nodded and pressed the gas pedal harder, speeding up at a moderate pace, laughing loudly while doing so. I let out a loud yell, laughing loudly and rolling down my window.
"Hell yeah, kid!" Hayden laughed, turning up the music to the point where I felt it in my chest. He continued down the long straight road, the roads not as congested due to it being midday. I kept my head back as we drove, the cold air whipping around both mine and Hayden's hair in the cab of the car. He turned down the music slightly as we pulled into a neighborhood filled with ginormous houses, my eyes going wide at the sight. He cut the music completely as we pulled into the long driveway of a two story house with large shrubs and trees in the front yard.
"We're the only ones here, don't worry." Hayden smiled, pulling on his lip ring once before pulling out the keys and grabbing his backpack. I grabbed for my bag as well, following after him quickly.
"This is your house?" I asked quietly, eyes wide at the home before me.
"Well, I mean, I have the key." He winked, unlocking the front door and walking inside.
"C'mon." He smiled, leading me in the door and up the stairs, my jaw nearly on the floor the whole time.
"What the fuck?" I muttered under my breath.
