Body aching and one eye swollen shut, I managed to wake up, the sight and sound of David snoring softly next to me bringing a small smile to my face. I ran the tip of my finger across his jawline, the scratch of his stubble making me smile.

"I can only grow a shitty pencil stache." I muttered, laughing quietly. I brought my hand to his chest, feeling the thumping beneath my palm.

"Some do drugs, others go for a run, but at the end we're all just searching for that tiny space, perhaps a hole, that gives us shelter from the terrible reality of the world." His words ran through my head once more, evoking a small sigh from myself.

"I want to know more about you." I whispered, finger trailing down his torso to the hem of his shirt.

"I want to know things like your middle name. Why you stick to yourself. Why you picked me. What your parents are like. If you have siblings." I now had my hand under his shirt, fingers slowly running up the skin to his chest.

"Danielle." He said tiredly, eyes shut but still managing to speak.

"I have a sister named Danielle." He said through a yawn, looking down at my hand under his shirt. He raised a brow and smirked as my cheeks began to flush red.

"What'a you doing with that hand there?" He asked, rubbing his eyes. I slipped my hand back out and pulled off the bag of now thawed peas from my torso, trying to now stand.

"Fu-uh-ck." I breathed, chewing on my lip. He sighed and rolled around in the bed for several seconds before getting up and watching me walk.

"You have the master?" I asked, rubbing my good eye. He nodded and yawned, stretching his arms over his head.

"I live here alone. Kinda earned it." He chuckled, helping me to the bathroom. I looked at my face and body in the mirror and shook my head, disbelieving the sight.

"Fucking Brandon Hoover." I breathed, inhaling shakily as I tried to fully take in a breath.

"I mean, you told him Hayden bit you." He chuckled, touching at the darkest bruise, located on my ribcage.

"Ba- David, do you mind getting my backpack for me?" I asked, catching myself quickly. He smirked and nodded, leaving me for only a minute before returning with my bag.

"You almost called me babe."

"Shut the fuck up." I began to laugh, grabbing my contact case from the front pocket and taking out my contact lenses. I pulled on my glasses and looked at him with a wide smile, raising both thumbs.

"Jesus Christ that looks bad." He sighed, touching my swollen eye softly.

"Text your parents and tell them you're staying over. No way in hell can you go home like that." David sighed, taking my backpack from me once more. I nodded and unlocked my phone, sending the message before following after him, hobbling my way down the stairs.

"You want anything to drink or eat? Or something?" He asked, grabbing a paper towel, filling it with ice before handing it to me. I pressed the small ice pack to my torso and inhaled quickly, biting my bottom lip.

"Coffee sounds great." I sighed, sitting on one of the barstools. He chuckled and nodded, grabbing two mugs.

"You're never going to grow if you drink that stuff." He laughed, pressing the on button on the machine, adding more coffee grounds and water.

"Pfft." I laughed, instantly regretting it as I felt the pain in my belly.

"I'll outgrow you someday." I hummed, pointing a brow. He only rolled his eyes as the scent of coffee now filled the air.

"David! What's this I hear abo-" The man now standing before us stopped speaking and looked to me.

"Who's this one?" He asked, gesturing to me. I covered my nipples with my hands, not knowing what to do or say before clearing my throat.

"Andrew." Dave spoke for me, laughing at the sight of me holding my chest.

"Andrew, this is my dad who so rudely likes to walk into houses without knocking. Dad, this is Andrew." I smiled and lifted one of my hands quickly, giving him a small wave. He returned the gesture and raised a brow.

"What's wrong with you, boy?" He asked, his eyes scanning over every inch of my exposed skin.

"He's having a hard time in school." Dave spoke up once more.

"Quit touching your fucking nipples." Dave laughed, itching at his nose. His dad only rolled his eyes and adjusted his sunglasses.

"You. Office. Now." He barked, snapping for Dave to walk to the room. I awkwardly stayed behind, walking to the couch and grabbing one of his clean shirts from the pile. I slowly pulled it over my head, the three quartered sleeve shirt hanging almost halfway down my thighs. I heard their muffled yells and awkwardly picked at my nails, examining the walls of the house. I text my mom for over an hour before Dave exited the office, slamming the door behind him.

"I can't buy you out of everything, David!" His dad called, slamming the door behind him, leaving with several profanities mumbled under his breath. He breathed heavily, hunching over the kitchen island while pulling his hair roughly, slamming his fist down on the countertop.

"Fuck!" He yelled, smacking one of the mugs across the counter before it hit the opposing counter cabinet and hit the floor, shattering into multiple pieces. I stayed silent and watched as he tore apart the kitchen and living space, screaming and kicking loudly. He stopped and his breathing was shallow, chest heaving, shoulders rising and falling. He finally stopped, doubling over before covering his face, body racking silently. He sniffled loudly and choked once, not looking up for the slightest moment. I hopped off my chair and walked to the other side of the counter, wrapping my arms around his waist awkwardly, placing my chin on his shoulder blade.

"It's okay." I sighed, kissing at his shoulder softly.

"What's going on?" I asked, wanting nothing more than to make him feel better. He inhaled shakily, turning and facing me before dropping his head on to my shoulder.

"I just fucked up." He breathed, his tears falling onto my shoulder. I rubbed his back and sighed, not knowing how to respond to the situation at hand.

"If it makes you feel better, I let Brandon Hoover kick my ass." I suggested, pressing a small kiss behind his ear. He chuckled and wiped his nose, smiling slightly.

"Pretty sure he won that square and fair." He laughed, wiping his eyes on the back of his hand. He looked at the kitchen and sighed, running his hands through his hair.

"I shouldn't have done that." He sighed, grabbing a paper towel and blowing his nose. I grabbed the broom from next to the fridge and began sweeping up the broken mug, cleaning it up fully and growing away the glass in the trash before beginning to fix the living space, picking up various house plants and paintings along with any of the other things he had thrown into opposing walls. I finished within fifteen minutes and sat at the counter again. Dave slid a warm cup of coffee across the counter to me along with the sugar and creamer. I sipped at it slowly, the strong coffee flavor making my insides feel better, the warmth making me feel equivalent to be wrapped in a blanket fresh out of the dryer.

"Thank you." He sighed, wiping down the counter. I shook my head no, sending him a silent 'Don't mention it.' while continuing to drink my coffee. He sighed and sucked at his top lip, awkwardly fidgeting with his hands.

"So..." He began, wiping at his eyes.

"Where do we stand. Like, relationship wise?" He asked, drumming his fingers on the countertop. I shrugged, sucking on my bottom lip before taking another drink.

"We've had sex, so we can't say strangers anymore." I scoffed, a small smirk forming on his face.

"Guess we'll leave it at a little more than friends for the time being." I shrugged.

Friends.
