Luca's POV
November, 1976
Valeria looked breathtakingly beautiful tonight. I almost didn't want to go to the ball because I knew everyone would be staring at her and she was mine.

Relax, Sir. Everyone knows she's yours,  Roderick said to me while Valeria was looking at the road. I looked at him as he gave me a knowing smile. Is it really that obvious? I asked him.

Roderick offered me an apologetic smile and a small nod. I groaned, I hated having to school my features when I went as a prince. It was necessary, but that didn't mean I had to like it. I didn't even want the crown!

"What's the matter?" Valeria asked as she reached for my hands. I sighed as she touched me. Valeria was always able to calm me down. "I absolutely hate the ball," I muttered.

"I understand. But if we go to the ball, you'll get to see me in a beautiful gown," Valeria said. Roderick chuckled at her words, knowing that it didn't help the situation. Valeria looked at him, perplexed.

"Princess, I don't think the Prince wants to see you being ogled by other men," Roderick explained. Valeria looked at me as if she was questioning Roderick's words.  I simply nodded in agreement.

"Well, you already know that I'm yours, as is  everyone else in the room. And if you're busy, I'll be with Roderick.  So if there is a man that isn't polite, Roderick will deal with him. Isn't that right, Roderick?" Valeria said. Roderick quickly nodded, I knew he cared about Valeria like a sister.

One day, I also saw him glaring at a man that kept staring at Valeria's body. So, at least I knew he would pay attention about something that concerned Valeria.

I was having a discussion about human slavery. I despised it. My family had already prohibited it. The other royal family, on the other hand, kept pressing my father to allow it with safety protocols. That made me want to laugh.

"Listen closely, Paulo. I don't believe it would make a difference. We all know that many vampires will cross the line as soon as they are not in plain sight," my brother ─  Sebastian ─  said to Paulo, who couldn't keep his mouth shut for more than five minutes.

Luca, what the hell is he thinking? Adam ─  my other brother ─  asked me. I replied immediately, Paulo wants to collect a slave. His mind keeps slipping. I believe that he may have a slave on his property.

Adam, as well as the rest of my family, heard those words. I didn't have time for Paulo's nonsense. So broadcasting the news seemed like an excellent idea.

My father appeared to be about to rip Paulo's throat. I was looking forward to seeing the show. But then I heard Valeria's voice calling me.

Lu! Please come and find me. I'm near the pond, Valeria said. I could feel she was restless. Without thinking twice, I materialized to the pond and found Valeria looking everywhere.

"My love, I'm here. What's wrong?" I cupped her face, looking for any injuries on her face and body. But I couldn't find one.

"Roderick said he'd be here talking with Jane. I waited inside for him for about forty minutes, but he never returned. And now, he's gone. What should we do?" Valeria explained quickly. She looked panic.

"Breath, my love. Remember that your emotions are both your strength and your weakness. So take a deep breath and relax for me," I told her as I rested my forehead against her. I took a deep breath because I knew she'd follow my breath.

"Are you all right now?" I asked her as I kissed her forehead. "Yeah. I'm sorry I'm just worried about him," Valeria replied.

"It's okay, my love. Let's find him together," I said, taking her hand in mine. We went back inside and looked for Roderick. I knew he wouldn't go in a free will. He would've told Valeria because he knew she will worried sick about him, just liked right now.
