Damian's POV
That fucking dagger.

It had been almost two weeks since Luca knew about the dagger in my vision. He told me that they needed 10 powerful witches in order to destroy the dagger. And two of them were ending up dead when they couldn't stabilized the power that radiated from the dagger in the process.

Knowing how dangerous the dagger was, I asked Luca about books that contained information about it. No longer than six hours, he led me to his office where there were stack of books about everything related to the dagger. I spent the whole night reading those books, trying to find a way to destroy the dagger before Grave could used it. Not only that, I also need to find a way to save Valeria from Jane.

After reading about everything that Luca gave me and also some other books about sacrificial and protection spell, I decided to ask Alexandra. The only problem was, I couldn't reveal the whole vision to her. So, I had to tread carefully.

"Hi, Alexandra. How are you?" I asked after she picked up my call. From the line, I could hear a commotion of kids yelling at each other.

"Hello, boy. I see you're still alive," her remarked made me roll my eyes. She already knew I was still alive. Valeria already called her yesterday for fuck sake. "What do you need?"

"You've already now about the dagger, right? So, is there any protection spell that's going to work against it?" I asked her while I kept reading my notes about the spell. Protection spell was used by witches to protect a person or an object from any harm.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" her response surprised me.

"What?" I asked, not knowing what I did wrong. It was supposed to be a good idea. Right? It was a simple well-known spell. It should work perfectly fine.

"It was a fucking pugionem anima, not a fucking needle," she exclaimed. How was I supposed to know it wasn't going to work? I only knew that the spell was meant to protect from any harm.

"Okay. I'm sorry. My bad," I quickly answered, not wanting to get to her temper, "But... Will it work against... let say, a wood stake?"

There was a silence between us. The only thing that filling the silence was the sound of the kids playing from her line. Alexandra for sure noticed where my question led. She didn't get her title without brain.

"Yes, it would work," Alexandra sighed. Her words eased my anxiety a little bit, knowing that I at least solved one of our problem.

"Damian, boy, you should be careful. Sometimes there's a factor that we didn't see coming before it's too late. You have to make sure you cover it all," her warning sent chill to my spine.

Shit.

And just like that, my anxiety came back full force. But of course, I heeded her warning. There was nothing more important that saving them. Even if I had to give up my life.

Valeria's POV
The paint brush moved slowly against the canvas, leaving a trail of blue color that was soothing my mind. I kept my focus on my painting, making sure there wasn't a mistake at all. Sense of calmness washed over me whenever I was making art. Even if it was just a sketch.

This was my second painting, not counting the one that was on the paper. I hadn't show my Damian or Luca my first painting. In my mind, I should have a backup plan in case they didn't like the first one. That was the reason I was spending my time with painting the second one.

I knew it was an irrational fear. They always adored my art, no matter how small and messy it was. I believed them, I really did. However, the lingering fear was still there, lurking behind the shadow of happiness from each compliments that I received.
