Luca's POV
My eyes were wide open as I tried to process what was happening around me, but the booming sound followed by the blast of wind knocking all of us down knocked us all down so quickly that my body flew backwards with Valeria landing on my chest. A few seconds went by as I tried to gather myself. But once I sat up, my body went on high alert after noticing Valeria was unconscious. I scanned her body for any injuries. Thankfully, there were none.

A sudden tap on my shoulder caused me to whirl around and choke the intruder. I snarled at them with my fangs ready to tear their throats. Valeria was unconscious and my other beloved was most likely dead. There was no way I would let anyone touch her. I had to protect her first, then check on Damian. I'd kill them all if that was needed to make sure my beloveds' safeties.

My nails pierced the intruder's throat, making the blood ooze over. My ears rang from the amount of rage I was feeling, a burning rage that was difficult for me to control. Deep down, I was aware that my rationality was questionable. But my priority was to protect my beloveds.

Suddenly, a wave of calmness washed over me, causing me to stagger backwards. Valeria's arms caught me and she pulled me into a tight hug. Her vanilla scent filled my nose, making my body gradually relax in her hold. And slowly, my rationality came back to me.

"It's okay," Valeria said as she rubbed my back. I knew she must be a mess as much as I was, but she took her time to calm me down. Which was probably the best option she had, before I went into a complete blood lust. "I'm okay. I'm here. We're okay."

We were not okay.

My eyes went back to the intruder, who turned out to be my brother, Adam. He wiped out the remaining blood from the already healing wound that was caused by my nails. Sebastian and Evander were standing right behind him with wary eyes, ready to intervene if needed. I shot Adam an apologetic look, which he just shrugged off. As a vampire, we knew better than to startle other vampires in dangerous situations. It was foolish of him to do so. If Valeria hadn't been able to calm me down, he had to fight me to get out of my grip. And he'd surely end up with some serious injuries.

From my peripheral vision, I could see our small army gathering evidence and assessing the situation. A couple of vampires stood near Jane's body, taking photos of her and calling the 'clean up' team.Even though we were supernatural beings, evidence was still necessary in case there was foul play. We didn't want to risk starting a war between our species. Therefore, in a time like this, evidence was essential.

Suddenly, a flare of pain flashed through our bond — a sign that our bond with Damian was back. I slowly drew my body away from Valeria, baffled that Damian was still alive. My heart shattered once again when my eyes found Damian and Graves's bodies on the ground. From where I stood, I could see that Grave's body had been burned to a crisp. But it was Damian's sharp breath that jolted me out of my stupor.

"Come with me," I told Valeria, before rushing towards Damian.

Valeria followed silently behind me. We kneeled on the ground beside Damian and I brought his body to my lap. His skin was pale and clammy. His usual youthful eyes were dull and laced with pain. My nose caught a whiff of his blood — a scent that normally aroused me, but was now making me sick. The dagger was still deep in his chest, but the stone was already shattered into pieces. And somehow, somehow Damian was still breathing. It was impossible, even for a demigod.

"Oh, Damian," Valeria stifled a sob as she pushed his blonde hair back, revealing more of his pale face.

I could feel my own tears streaming down my cheeks, but I bit my lower lip to avoid making a sound. I had to be strong, just as I had been forty years ago. Valeria had a soft heart and Damian's death would tear her apart. And looking at his state, I knew his death would be inevitable. So I had to be strong for Valeria. If I broke down, there was no one to catch her.
