Y/N's P.O.V.
"Please save my wife." The Governor begged.
"There will, I'm afraid, be regular prompts to create an atmosphere of urgency." The lights turned red again and Jim's voice came back through the speakers, repeating two words: Tick Tock.
John took the gun and Sherlock stepped back."What's your name?" John asked.
"David." The Governor nodded.
"Are you sure about this, David?" John asked, shifting his weight from one foot to another. He was nervous- no. He was more than nervous, he was terrified.
"Of course I'm bloody sure." David scoffed.
"Nearly there." Eurus coaxed.
"Right, do you want to pray or anything?" John asked, glancing at me. He was stalling for time, trying to build himself up to it, but I knew talking to the Governor would only make it worse for him.
"With Eurus Holmes in the world, who the hell would I pray to?" David laughed nervously.
"You are a good man and you are doing a good thing." John frowned and the Governor nodded.
"So are you."
"I'll spend the rest of my life telling myself that." John muttered, before raising the gun. Mycroft turned away, covering his eyes whilst David sucked in a breath. Raising his hand, David looked at us all individually, before turning around and John put his hand on the man's shoulder, getting him to kneel.
"Oh, God." David sobbed as John cocked the gun.
"I know that you are scared, jut you should also be very proud." John whispered.
"Just do it." David replied and John's hands shook.
"Be quick." I glanced up at Sherlock and in that moment we both knew John couldn't pull the trigger. He was a good man, he couldn't kill an innocent person in cold blood.
The lights turned red again."Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick."
"This is very good, Dr. Watson." Eurus encouraged as the lights returned to normal.
"I should have fitted you with a cardiograph.""Goodbye, David." John muttered and the seconds passed slowly, before John stepped back.
"I can't. Sorry, I can't do it.""It's fine, it's alright." Sherlock nodded at him and I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. David got up suddenly, snatching the gun and shakily pointing it at us.
"Stop! No. No, stop!" John warned him as we all raised our hands.
"I'm sorry." David sobbed.
"It's alright." I muttered, looking at him as I took a hesitant step back.
"Just put the gun down.""I'm so sorry." David positioned the gun under his chin and my eyes widened.
"Remember me." We all shouted as he pulled the trigger, with the exception of Mycroft, who turned to throw up."You alright?" I looked at John, who hesitantly nodded and Sherlock looked at me, as if he was trying to work something out.
"Interesting." Eurus muttered.
"All right, there you go. You got what you wanted." Sherlock looked at the monitor as he stepped towards the glass.
"And he's dead.""Dead or alive, he really wasn't very interesting, but you four, you four... were wonderful. Thank you." Eurus nodded.
"You see, what you did, Dr. Watson, specifically, because of your moral code, because you don't want blood on your hands, two people are dead instead of one.""Not two people." John shook his head.
"Yes, sorry. Hang on." Eurus turned and shot the Governor's wife, causing me to sigh and look down.
"What advantage did your moral code grant you? Is it not, in the end, selfish to keep one's hands clean at the expense of another's life?""You didn't have to kill her!" John shouted, making Eurus giggle.
"The condition of her survival was that you or Mycroft had to kill her husband. This is an experiment. There will be rigour." Eurus tilted her head.
"Y/N, pick up the gun. It's your turn next. When I tell you to use it, and I will, remember what happened this time.""What if she doesn't want a gun?" Sherlock asked as I eyed the weapon next to the pool of blood.
"Oh, the gun is intended as a mercy." Eurus smiled.
"If someone else had to die, Y/N, would you really want to do it with your bare hands? It would waste valuable time." I moved to pick up the gun, ignoring the concerned looks John and Mycroft gave me."There's only one bullet left." I muttered, checking the magazine, before looking up at the screen.
"You will only need one." Eurus replied simply.
"But you will need it." A door to my left opened and we all looked at it suspiciously.
"Please... go through. There's a few tasks for you and a girl on a plane who's getting very, very scared." The screen went off and Sherlock went to the door, before stopping and looking at Mycroft."Treats?" The younger Holmes asked.
"Yes." Mycroft nodded.
"You know, a violin.""In exchange for...?" I asked and Mycroft looked at me with a sigh.
"She's very clever." He deadpanned.
"I'm beginning to think you're not." Sherlock glared at him.
