Surprisingly the travel to America didn't feel long, though I could already tell I was going to be slightly homesick for a little while and miss my family. I guess it's a good thing that I'm with Emil through all this, since at least we are experiencing everything together. And I will have Joosep around if I need to see someone for my family.
"Just remember. We are children of moose farmers. Your Emil Pulkow for the rest of the year no one must know of your or my identity."
"I know Anna. On the plus side, you have no choice but to call me Emil now no matter if we are alone or not."
"I'm well aware Maxemil."
"Anna...."
"We have not landed in America yet, I do not need to start calling you Emil. Also remember, my name is Anastasia Monroe for the year and we are childhood friends. So do not call me your sister as a coverup."
"I understand why I need a fake last name but not you Anna."
"Because my family is linked with yours and has been for many generations. It's just a precaution our families are taking."
"I would also assume it wouldn't be too hard for us to seem like we are childhood friends."
"Because we've known one another our whole life?"
"That and the fact we are already best friends."
"As you have said Maxemil, I am your best female friend."
"That you are."
'Once we leave this plane we enter our new temporary lives. Is this what it is like to be in witness protection?'
When we met the lady who is our host mother she seemed very excited about us joining her household for a year. Turns out the lady Emil picked was called Regina Jackson who was and has been the first nice person we've both met in Peoria.
'This is a pleasant start.'
Every time I looked over at Emil he didn't once stop smiling through the whole process making me always have a small smile on my face, especially when we were shown around the house/bowling alley. We were shown my room first which was the attic and I quite liked it since it felt homely.
'I think this will be my safe haven.'
Once I set my things down we made our way to another room which was about the size of Emil's closet back home.
"What a wonderful closet!" He told as me and Regina struggled with his luggage's.
'How did he still managed to need all these things, I will never understand.'
"Actually, Emil, this is the room that you'll be sharing with Teddy. This is your bed right here." She told as she walked across the room to put his stuff down and pointed to the bed with nothing around it.
I watched as Emil fell back into it and rolled around as he laughed while repeating the word ow.
"I can feel every spring." He told before sitting up. "Anna you must try it."
"I think I am good." I stated before he pulled me down onto it and he was correct. "This is very uncomfortable."
"What did you sleep on back home?" Regina had asked as we got off the bed and she put the last two bags down next to it.
"I slept on a big luxurious," he began before I quickly elbowed him in the side. "pile of leaves. Because as the son of a humble moose farmer, I often slept outside, with the moose."
"Some moose's like to be cuddled with, and it was often our jobs to cuddle them through the night." I added hoping she believed it.
"Okay."
'Oh thank god that worked.'
The door behind us opened again making us look to see who I assumed was Teddy. Regina took a step back and Emil instantly got excited at seeing him.
'Wow he really was looking forward to meeting him. Maybe I should also take a step back?'
"Hey, you must be Emil and Anastasia. I'm Teddy." He stated as he came over to us and offered his hand.
"Warmest greetings, my new friend!" Emil exclaimed before offering him a high-five and Teddy went to do it.
"Oh I wouldn't....." I told trying to warn him only for Emil to exclaim Turkey Tap and do what comes from it. "do that."
"Oh gosh, don't do that!" Teddy exclaimed as he began to sink a little.
"Oh would you prefer a chicken twister..."
"No!" He said moving away from Emil to be next to his mother. "I don't want any of that!"
"Teddy, be a good host. Let him twist your chickens."
"Don't think you have the correct meaning of that." Teddy told her.
"He is a big fan of Stank Man and Daryl. He actually usually had me watch them with him." I explained.
"It's true. Anna has seen almost all of them."
"And yet there's always more."
"Anna?" Teddy asked
"It's the nickname Emil gave me. I'm also okay with being called Ann, if you prefer that over my actual name." I told before Emil noticed a robot on the desk.
"Oh my! What are these toys?!" He asked running over to the desk.
"Hey! These are not toys. They're advanced robotics." Teddy said correcting Emil.
Emil presses a button causing the robot to start dancing. "This one also dances."
"So you make self-propelled, nonautonomic units?" I asked with a small smile.
"You know robots?" Regina asked making me nod.
"I find the topic interesting." I stated before looking back over to Emil.
"How fun! Dance party!" Emil said before he began to swish-swish. "Come join me Anna!"
"I think I prefer seeing you enjoy the one man dance party."
"Hey that's actually pretty good swish-swish." Regina stated before joining in on the dancing.
"Dance party. Dance party. Dance party."
Emils fist hit the toolbox that was on the desk, knocking it over and making a mess all over the place.
'Well this is no longer a pleasant start to America.'
"I'm sorry. I may have over swished."
'This is most likely going to be a long year.'
"Well, I'm gonna get out of your hair." She told before heading towards the door. "You guys just get to know each other. Just don't stay up too late."
'Strange lady. Feel like her and Joosep would get along well.'
"Although, if you wanted to sneak down to the bowling alley and bond over a round of football, I mean, who am I to stop you?"
"You're my mum." Teddy stated.
"Also wouldn't the noise wake everyone up if we were to do so?" I questioned adding to the logic of what she said.
"I know. Aren't I the coolest?" She asked Teddy before leaving.
"Is it normal to ignore logic in America?" I asked turning towards Teddy.
"Sometimes." He told as he went to clean up the mess.
"Oh let me. It will let you relax for a moment from returning to school." I told as I quickly got to work cleaning it all up.
"Are you always like this?"
"Somewhat. I've come to be a tidy person due to my living situation back home. Which is the daughter of a humble moose farmer and everyone knows you need to be tidy to have a happy moose." I told before going back to cleaning up.
"Well, roomie, it is going to be so fun spending every moment together. And to kick off our journey to friendship, I have brought you..." he told as I looked to see him rush to the door and collect a cooler from outside the door. "a cooler of root beers."
"Where did you get that? I do not remember you always having that." I stated as I finished putting everything in the tool box and placed it back on the desk. "I would organise but I do not know where you liked things."
"Grab a cold one... from the bottom!" He told Teddy as Teddy got closer and Emil couldn't hold back his excitement.
Emil ended up taking the lid off and once he looked inside and his smile fell.
"Uh oh."
"Emil did you do the prank I think you did?" I asked as he lift the cooler up and ice fell out of a missing corner.
"I seem to have lost my...." he began before he was cut off by a scream.
"Crocodile!"
"Oh good, she found it."
'Why are we friends?'
