CHAPTER ELEVEN!
"Why is he staring at you like that?"
Y/N L/N WAS WOKEN UP BY LILY'S SHOUTING VOICE, as well as a pillow being slammed on to her body. She flinched as her eyes opened wide, seeing the red haired Evans girl standing before her bed. She was the one who was trying to wake her.
"Wake up, Y/n! Wake up!" shouted Lily, "Everyone's already gone for breakfast! Come on!" Y/n groaned in annoyance as she sat up, looking at Lily. "Seriously, what time did you go to sleep last night?" the red head asked.
Y/n shrugged, "I don't really remember." She looked around the now empty dormitory room, and got up. "You didn't go out with Moony, did you?" asked Lily as Y/n reached for her uniform. "No," she responded, shaking her head.
"We were really concerned about you.. You seemed really tired. You still do," said Lily, as Y/n yawned, fixing up her tie. "I am.." She quickly brushed her teeth in the bathroom and grabbed her bag.
"You sneaked out last night, right?" Lily asked as they rushed down the stairs- heading to the great hall for breakfast. "I just went down to the common room. That was it," said Y/n, lying. They eventually exites the common room.
She thought it was for the best if she didn't tell anyone about her and Regulus for the time being.
"Ah.. Okay," Lily nodded as they approached the great hall, "You know you can always talk to me." Y/n smiled at her and said, "Thanks, Lily."
When they were about to enter the great hall, Y/n felt herself bumping into someone. She looked up, finding the same dark haired boy she had met last night. Regulus Black.
He had red, puffy, tired eyes, and was looking down at her. Regulus locked his eyes with Y/n's for a while - it felt like an eternity to her. He clenched his jaw, and looked at Lily for a split second, before he went ahead and stormed into the great hall.
Lily was left in confusion, watching Regulus make his way to the Slytherin table, as the two Gryffindor girls headed over to theirs. "Strange.. That bloke would usually insult us. Now he's just.. walking right off," said Lily, scratching her head.
Y/n thought maybe their little getaway from Hogwarts last night did something to Regulus. Maybe he was letting Y/n be the person who would help him. Maybe he was trying to accept it. "Well let's not question him," said Y/n shrugging.
The girls reached their usual spot. Y/n was seated beside James, Peter, and Sirius, while across from them, sat Lily and Remus. Lily definitely scooted away from James on purpose. "Hi, girlies," said James, smiling happily. While Y/n replied with a simple, "Hi."
"You look absolutely dreadful, Y/n," said James, scanning Y/n's tired appearance up and down. She let out a sigh and scoffed, "Thanks a lot, James."
"You just look tired.. Are you okay?" Remus asked worriedly, leaning forward. Y/n gave him a smile and nodded, "Yeah, i'm fine, Moony." Remus lifted an eyebrow and asked her again, "Are you sure?"
"If something was bugging me, i would definitely tell you."
"Right.."
"Where were you last night, Y/n?" Sirius leaned closer to her, whispering, "I waited for you at the shrieking shack." She knew he was waiting for her there- but Regulus needed her. Y/n's breath hitched - she wasn't very good at this lying thing. "Oh - I accidentally slept in, sorry," Y/n whispered back.
"You made me wait for hours."
"I'm sorry!"
"Why does he keep looking here?" said Peter, "Wait, is he looking at you, Y/n?" He was referring to Regulus - who was sat at the Slytherin table across the room, giving Y/n a long stare as he ate.
"Who?" Moony asked as he turned back, trying to know who the person Peter meant was. "Regulus," said Peter.
"My brother?" Sirius asked. His tone was a mix of disbelief an annoyance. James looked up from admiring Lily, and his eyes travelled to the Slytherin table. "No he isn't -" James laughed, but then when he realized he was in fact, staring at Y/n, he sighed, "Oh - he's looking at you, Y/n."
"He's probably just - you know - plotting something or trying to come up with insults," said Y/n, awkwardly and nervously sipping her pumpkin juice. She couldn't let her friends know what actually happened with Regulus.
"Well he won't be delivering them to you, i can tell you that," said Remus, and Y/n merely gave him a smile. "He has this weird stare.." Sirius said lowly, almost in a whisper, "Why is he staring at you like that?"
"I told you my prediction. The truth of it is unclear," Y/n shrugged, "Unless you ask him." Sirius' head immediately turned to her. He shook his head, "I'm not going near that disgusting slug."
"Hey.." Y/n started, looking back into Regulus' eyes. He did not, even for a second, look away. "I think he's not so bad," she continued.
"WHAT?" The five friends said in unison.
"He called you a slur multiple times!" Peter pointed out. And Lily joined in, "He doesn't like people like us, Y/n." James laughed, and leaned back. "You really think there's some of good in him?" he said, "For me, not really."
"Maybe there's a part of him where we haven't looked into yet. A part of him that's decent," said Y/n, as she chewed on her toast. "That part of my brother does not exist," Sirius said.
"How are you thinking of these stuff, Y/n?" Remus asked, "Thought you hated him." Y/n struggled to come up with an excuse - seeing the curious look on Remus' face. "I'm just very observant and forgiving - i'm good at giving people second chances and seeking good in them," she said.
