"Do what makes your soul smile."
"How are you feeling today James?" Leo questioned from his spot across from her.
There first one on one session. Sean and Owen both told her that they could schedule it for after school but James insisted she'd rather get it done and over with, commenting that she had work to get to as well. She couldn't keep on skipping out on shifts.
Well, she was grateful for her new friends but she still had to make sure work was a priority.
Still, she couldn't help but be nervous. She hadn't talked to the Leo since their impromptu phone conversation on the roof.
Now she was having her first one-on-one session.
She made sure she kept still in her seat despite her nerves. She leaned back on the couch trying to give off a calm vibe. Eyes roaming over the office. Across from her, Leo sat in a small single chair. A wide expresso-colored coffee table sat in front of her with various objects. Fidget toys, pencils, paper.
Behind Leo was a desk computer tilted back to the wall some pictures and drawings lingering on the wall.
"Anxious," James said after a moment. Fighting her first instinct to lie. Or more so...alter the truth. She didn't like admitting her feelings. It felt like she was giving someone the knife to push into her back.
"Is there something specific causing you to feel anxious or is it a general feeling?"
James turned the small ring on her finger, "Therapy is still new...last time we talked on the phone. Before we had a group of people..."
"Would you feel more comfortable talking on the phone instead of in-person meetings?" Leo questioned, "This is supposed to be beneficial to you so whatever I can do to help ease anything I'll do my best."
"I-" James paused at that briefly taken aback by his question. "No, I think I'm alright it'll just take a moment getting used to."
Leo smiled at that, "That's true. Change can always be challenging."
Therapists always egging you on to add more. James wouldn't take the bait stubbornness etching over her slightly. It was stupid really seeing as how it was her choice to start going to therapy again.
Old habits die hard she supposed.
"Can I ask you a question?" Leo asked.
James smirked, "You just did, I suppose I could spare another."
He let out a small laugh at that, "On the phone, you were struggling with your friends."
James nodded slowly, "I was worried about how they'd react to...everything. Afraid I'd lost them..." she paused, "That's not really a question though."
Leo shook his head, "I have a feeling our sessions are going to be fun."
"Extremely."
"How connected do you feel to the people around you James?" He questioned, "Clearly the weight of what others think is important to you but to what extent?"
James furrowed her brow, "What do you mean?"
"Well, you were scared that your friends would someone abandoned you once they learned more about you and your past. That makes me wonder how connected you are to them all. It also makes me wonder how high you value other people's opinions."
She growled lowly eyes narrowing, "You know what-" She stopped herself before she could say something snarky taking in a deep breath. Talking. Expressing feelings. She supposed this is what she had to do. "Sang and the others...there the closest people to me."
