A/N: I have a book out called "Last chance" and I would appreciate it if y'all checked it out. I'm trying to write a few of my own books so I would be thankful if you do & if u do please leave feedbacks :) (I'll try to post every Wednesday on that story) Also sorry for this crappy chapter.
Today wasn't exactly a day that Ruby loved. She woke up to a dead phone and as a result she woke up pretty late, she didn't have time to do her hair so it was still flat on a side, she got pulled over for speeding, and now the car she was working on had a problem which made her have to replace most of the stuff on the undercarriage.
She sat at a desk with a coffee cup in front of her which was rare to see as she was a morning bird. She didn't even have time to get breakfast or make herself lunch.
"Woah! You look dead!" Yang laughed as she barged into Ruby's office.
Ruby didn't even have enough energy to argue against it as she just waved it off.
"How'd the date with Pyrrha go?" Yang asked as she sat down in a seat in front of her sister.
"It wasn't a date, and it was pleasant." She didn't feel in the mood to tell Yang that she ran into Jaune.
"Yeah, sure sure." Yang rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah Penny called..."
Ruby furrowed her eyes together. She was concern on why Penny would call Yang, she usually called Ruby before Yang. "What happened?" Ruby asked worriedly.
Yang fidgeted in her seat avoiding making eye contact with her sister. "Her cancer... It's gotten worse.. She didn't want to tell you herself but they said the treatments aren't working and it's progressing fast." Yang replied. She reached over the desk to hold on to Ruby's hand.
Ruby stared at nothing particular as she took it in. Her childhood best friend was so close to death, she was going to lose the closest thing to her besides Yang.
"I have to see her." Ruby grabbed her phone swiftly and started looking for tickets to Atlas that were far from her usual pay check amount.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Yang looked down.
"If this is my last chance to see her.. I'm going to make sure she knows I'm besides her even before death. You know how much she means to me... Us. She's family." Ruby argued.
Yang sighed crossing her arms. "With everything going on.. You might have to wait."
"I can take the day off and you guys got everything handled." Ruby reasoned.
Yang but the inside of her cheek. "Wait a week, a week exactly and I'll pitch in so you can afford that ticket. We need you right now Ruby." Yang glanced away for a split second. "Our place, where we work on White Fang mainly, it was attacked last night.. five dead and seven injured. Two of the five were children." Yang announced.
"Yang.." Ruby started.
"I'm not trying to guilt trip you I swear! This is reality Ruby, people will die and maybe I'll change my mind in a few days and let you go sooner but the people need you." Yang said.
"Blake's the leader though." Ruby was confused at what Yang was saying. She wouldn't lie to her about this to let her stay either, she actually wanted Ruby to travel but this was different.
"People still look up to you and everyone else." Yang replied. "The kids love you especially." Yang scoffed as she was jealous of that a little.
"Yang.. I need to go see Penny... I'm sorry." Ruby whispered.
"That's fine just.. when you get back head straight to the building." Yang smiled lightly.
"I will." Ruby sighed. "Gosh being an adult is so tiring." Ruby groaned. She wanted to change the topic to something uplifting.
"I told you." Yang chuckled. "How's it with the Ice queen?"
"Ice Queen...?" Ruby questioned.
"Yeah, thought I'd give Ms. Snow White a fitting name." Yang said.
"Well pretty good actually. We actually fell asleep on FaceTime together." Ruby smiled.
"Ooooo~ is my little sister pulling someone!?" Yang exclaimed while hyping herself up.
"No." Ruby chuckled. "I'm not focused on that."
"Yeah but you definitely flirted right!?" Yang leaned forward with wide eyes.
"I told her that it's always fun when I'm around." Ruby blushed in embarrassment. She started playing with her fingers.
Yang stared at her for a few second before laughing out loud, it was a gut kinda laugh as her head fell back.
"Did.. Did she at least.. Like it?" Yang breathed.
Ruby nodded. "She told me to thank you."
"Tell her it's no problem." Yang smiled proudly.
"I'd love to chat more with you but I got to get back to work." Ruby gestured to a packet of small papers next to her.
"Oh crap! Sorry Rubes." Yang laughed. "See ya!" Yang waved before shutting the door.
Ruby signed, a small grin playing on her lips. Just like when they were kids she would always make everything feel so much better.
Ruby grabbed her phone to text Weiss as she already dismissed work from her head completely.
Ruby: Hey Weiss :) just telling you I might be in Atlas for a few days anddddd I was wondering.. can we meet up?
Weiss: Why?
Ruby: I'm visiting a friend there and I mean I have a chance to meet you :D
Weiss: Shouldn't you be spending time with them?
Ruby: I can't 24/7 so I'm actually free at some times :3
Weiss: When will you be here?
Ruby: I don't know yet.. I have to deal with what happened here... You know the attack..
Weiss: Right.. Well contact me when you arrive, I'll send someone to get you.
Ruby: You don't need to!
Weiss: *too & getting a cab here isn't exactly cheap. Don't worry you won't meet me and I suspect you have a place to stay before you come.
Ruby: Will do! I'll look into it later! ;)
Weiss: See you.
Ruby: BYYYEEEE
Ruby might of just delayed her plans out of nervousness at the moment she texted Weiss but she found it to be the best. She got two bad news at once and Penny can wait anyways but others couldn't. She felt bad putting Penny second but it was the best she could do. She also needed the money from Yang.
