You and Inosuke made it back late that night. The boar boy had gone right to sleep, but you couldn't close your eyes for more than a few seconds at a time.

Not only were you still dwelling in the thought that Inosuke had been the one to save you when you were a child, but, you also felt disturbed, like a pair of eyes were staring at you through the window.

But every time you turn, there's nothing but the vast greenery outside

Inosuke, who usually slept like every nap would be his last, was even a little restless tonight too. Before he laid to sleep he told you to alert him if something happens, which he doesn't usually do.

You finally decided to get up in the middle of the night. There's just no way that your instincts are wrong here.

Inosuke opens one eye to look at you while you pick up your sword and head for the door

"Oi, where are you going? Aren't you tired? It's late" he grunts

You raise one finger to your lips "shh, go back to sleep. I'm just going outside for a little"

He sits up groggily "it's dangerous to go alone. Let me go with you"

You shake your head slowly "I won't be long. I promise"

Inosuke seems skeptical at first, but he trusts your word, so he lays back down with a long sigh

You smile softly at him from the doorway before slipping away into the corridor, making your way outside from there

Upon stepping outside, you look around at the trees for any sign of life, your sword in hand

Then, unexpectedly, you fell backward onto the dirt by a force so quick you hardly know what hit you

Your face was pressed sideways into the ground by a rough hand with gangly fingers and long nails, but you could see a glimpse of your attacker's face

The same lower rank five demon!!! I won't let him get away this time

"DAMN YOU!! YOU TRIED TO KILL ME!!" The voice hissed in your ear

He lowers his head to look into your eyes. You wonder how he's making contact with you—after all, he is supposedly blind.

Then you remember that he can see the presence of people, not their real physical forms

Which meant you should be able to stab him, and he won't see the sword

"I can't hold back this insatiable hunger, I must eat a human" He grinned, drooling over you "forgive me Kibutsuji-sama. The war on humans continues now, with me."

You fumble at your waist frantically and draw your sword, jabbing the blade into him without seeing where it went

The demon threw its head back and yowled

You squirm away, yanking the sword out of its leg and cringing at the spray of blood from the wound

You then spun on your heels, running at the monster with full force

The ground began to rumble and groan beneath you, causing you to pause. Chunks of earth  crumbled away as black vines snaked from between the vein-like cracks in the dirt, wrapping around your legs
