If you're new here because you read the note I left on Chapter 1, ignore the stuff above this paragraph and read the story. Welcome to an ad-free story, kind of. The only downide of this is no pictures.
Recap of the first story: This series started off with Steven as an 8 year old boy in an alley who doesn't have a memory of what happened to his parents. He was found by two drunk men and they beaten on him and cut his arms and legs, nearly his neck until they ran off. He suffered greatly from infection to his cuts and then he found a gun.
He was about to kill himself until a woman stopped him. Her name is Phoebe, she was a widow in her mid twenties. She saw Steven's cuts and bruises and took him back to her place.
An 8 year timeskip occurs and Steven is normal again. His cuts have healed but left scars on his body, he wasn't scrawny anymore, and he knows how to fight. Phoebe taught him how to defend himself and to fight properly.
Phoebe used to be a MMA teacher, which explained her knowledge of combat. Unfortunately, Phoebe was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and they didn't discover it until it was too late. She died in her sleep, and Steven didn't know until he went to check on her.
Steven didn't take her death well, he used to treat her like a queen (which she was flattered but concerned about him at the same time) and now that she was gone, he didn't feel like he had much of a purpose. Again, he thought about killing himself but then thought that Phoebe would be ashamed of him for doing that, since she stopped him from doing it before. So, he went to live as long as he could.
He eventually finds a man named Greg Universe at a rockshow and him being the rockstar. Greg notices Steven was an orphan and offered him a spot in his beach house that he was going to built and Steven took it. He was reluctant at first but eventually went with it and helped Greg build the house.
Greg eventually adopted him and then something else happens. He meets a strange woman named "Rose Quartz". This woman turned out to be an alien species called a gem.
But this type of species seemed friendly and didn't want to take over the world, or so it seemed. She had three other colleagues and they are a team called the "Crystal Gems". Greg encouraged Steven to join but he refused, until Rose wanted him to join as well.
The members are Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst. They didn't like Steven and Steven didn't like them, simple as that. Of course, they wouldn't let him join just like that (mainly because he's a human, not a gem).
Rose said he had to go through a gauntlet of tests to prove if he could handle being on the team. Steven passed the tests and went beyond their expectations, mostly Rose's. The final test was to fight the Crystal Gems at once.
Steven won the fight and Rose was convinced. The others, not so much. Garnet and Amethyst were somewhat okay with it but Pearl did not like Steven one bit.
She was jealous of the fact that Steven was easily impressing Rose and he is hardly trying, too. She tried to get Rose to not let him join but Rose did not want to hear it. Steven was "officially" joined the Crystal Gems.
Two weeks after that, Rose wanted to have a relationship with Greg. Greg said he couldn't, not because she wasn't from Earth but that he wouldn't be right for her. Heartbroken over the "rejection", Rose left and didn't leave messages or goodbyes.
