"Hey babe, your timing is on point. I was just about to go to bed. How are you doing? Are the boys still there?" I asked Kyle as soon as I answered his call.
By now we had been a couple for 2 months and it was easily the best time of my life. Everything was more fun with him together. Even though we were both very busy with our work, we managed to find the perfect balance between all our commitments.
It was just easy to be with him. There was just no better way to describe it. My family and friends loved Kyle from the first second they met him. BF/N and her boyfriend Jake acted like giggling little school girls when we first met up with them. I was thankful that Kyle was patient with them and answered any questions they had. He said he was used to interacting with fans and always enjoyed it. And since they were my friends, he enjoyed it in this case even more.
Kyle, just like myself, found it more than ironic that my best friend was such a passionate wrestling fan, while my knowledge of it was very limited.
Of course it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, we also had our situations where we were annoyed by each other's behavior. But we always managed very quickly to smooth the waters.
And I still had trouble getting used to always and constantly being photographed and followed. The interest had not subsided even after two months. It constantly tugged at my nerves, but thanks to breathing exercises I managed to calm down as well as I could.
"Hi, beautiful. Yes, they are still here, but I just wanted to see how the rest of your day went. I miss you already." said Kyle.
"I miss you too. So much. Well, I'm packed and my research for the interview is so far done. I took a shower and was about to go to sleep. It's only 8pm, but since I have to get up at 2am to go to the airport, I'm going to try to get at least a few hours of sleep. What else do you have planned for today?" I explained to him as I climbed into bed and made myself comfortable.
"Oh we're watching matches from our indie days and now we' re waiting for the pizza. And you know, other guy stuff," Kyle replied.
"Aha guy stuff, aka gossiping about chicks, huh?" I teased him laughing.
"Don't expect me to share classified information here, Miss L/N." he smirked.
"That means I'm right. Okay, babe, I should really try to get some sleep now. I'll get back to you tomorrow as soon as I land in New York. Okay?" I said.
"You do that. Good night, baby." he replied.
"Good night. Love you. Bye." I said and ended the call.
I plugged my phone into the charging cord and then snuggled into my pillows and closed my eyes hoping I would be able to fall asleep at this hour.
As I lay there, a thought popped into my head and I abruptly sat up.
Had I really said 'love you'? Just like that, over the phone? How could I do that? That really wasn't the way to tell someone you love them for the first time. What's wrong with me?
Maybe, just maybe I was lucky and Kyle hadn't heard. That was possible, wasn't it? That maybe he didn't hear me right? That's probably how it was. I was talking pretty fast and he didn't catch it. No harm done. I would just forget that I had blurted those words out and find the perfect time to say it to Kyle's face and be able to look him in the eye.
After I had cleared my inner chaos as best I could, I sank back into the pillows and tried to finally find sleep. But the voice in my head made me doubt whether I would succeed.
The minutes ticked by, but I just couldn't find sleep. I looked at the clock and it was almost 8:45 pm. So much for sleeping a few hours before I have to go to the airport.
But then suddenly the doorbell rang. Since I couldn't sleep anyway, I might as well answer the door. I got up and quickly pulled my bathrobe over before I went to the door and opened it.
"Kyle! What are you doing here?" I asked, surprised. Kyle pushed me back into the apartment and closed the door behind him. Before I could think about what was happening, he had already pinned me flat against the wall. Immediately his lips found mine in a passionate, steamy kiss.
"I couldn't let you leave town without saying it back." He whispered against my mouth.
"Oh god... you heard it? Kyle, I'm so sorry. I definitely didn't mean to do it that way. It just slipped out. I..." He stopped me by kissing me again.
"I love you too, Y/N!" he said, looking deep into my eyes. Instantly, I felt a wonderful warmth spread through me. A smile wider than I thought possible spread across my face.
"I love you, Kyle!" I whispered, cupping his face with my hands and pulling him closer to me. As I joined our mouths together and our breaths mixed, Kyle lifted me up and carried me to the bed.
No other words were necessary at that moment. Not for either of us. We showed each other our love until we sank into the pillows, exhausted yet overjoyed. Now came the sleep I had desperately searched for earlier. I found it in Kyle's strong arms and in the sound of his heartbeat.
Then, all too soon, my alarm clock rang, jolting me rudely from my relaxed sleep. Reluctantly, I broke free from Kyle's embrace and turned off the alarm clock and turned on the bedside lamp. In the dim light, I took a moment to look at him.
Suddenly, he began to stir. Quickly, I leaned down to him.
"Shh... go back to sleep, baby. I've got to get going now. I'll call you when I get there. Love you." I whispered in his ear and then heard him hum contentedly.
"Love you too." Kyle mumbled and then drifted back into a deep slumber.
