Kyle POV

"Do you need anything before I start?" I asked Y/N, who was making herself comfortable on a stack of mats in the corner of the gym, reading a book while I worked out.

"Hmm... just a kiss." she replied with a smile.

I was only too happy to lean down and give her a kiss. My hand automatically rested on her baby bump. I was still impatiently waiting to feel the movements of our little man. But apparently he liked to make me wait.

"Call me to you if you need anything okay?" I said to her.

"Of course. Now get started! We still have a lot to do until our families arrive this afternoon." replied Y/N, lying down with her back on the mat and opening her book.

"Yes, wifey, I know. We still have plenty of time. This will only take an hour." I assured her.

Then I went to work, but my gaze kept wandering to my wife. Her hand kept moving to her belly and stroking it. I assumed she did that every time she felt our son moving inside her. And to be perfectly honest, I could have just stood there for hours watching her. Even if it would probably annoy Y/N before long.

Today was Christmas Eve and in the afternoon our two families would arrive to spend the holidays with us. I was looking forward to it very much, even if it was especially at Christmas time difficult, that my mother was no longer with us. This year I missed her particularly bad. With the wedding and the baby on the way. I was sure that she would love Y/N and that she herself could hardly wait to hold her grandson in her arms.

Then I forced myself to concentrate and focused my attention on my actual task. That was also important. Not more important than my family, but still. It didn't take long and then the training time was up. I grabbed a towel and my water bottle before heading over to Y/N.

"All done. Are you ready to go back home, baby?" I asked as I stood in front of her.

"Sure. Give me your hand, please." spoke Y/N. I did as she said and helped her sit up.

"Thanks, baby. It's not so easy with that big belly." she said as she stood up.

"I'll bet it isn't. He's grown so much in the last few weeks. It's really halfway done now," I replied.

"Oh believe me I know! But the biggest part is yet to come." she said laughing before turning around and reaching for her book. But suddenly she began to sway slightly.

"Are you all right? Are you dizzy?" I asked worriedly.

"Yeah it's all good. I'm sure I just got up too fast." she tried to reassure me. Then she turned to me and wrapped her arms around my waist.

"Are you sure? You're honestly a little pale." I said to her, examining her closely.

"Kyle, I'm fine..." began Y/N but then stopped.

I felt her collapse and held her tighter before she could fall. Panic spread through me as I straightened her up. A few agonizing seconds later, she thankfully opened her eyes again.

"Okay, we're going to the ER right now!" I said, lifting her into my arms.

"I'm fine, Kyle. I'm sure it was just the blood pressure because I got up too fast." she tried to reassure me again. But it didn't matter.

"You just fainted, baby. This needs to be checked out. I'm worried about you and the baby. I don't want anything to happen to either or both of you. So we're going to the doctor," I replied sternly. There was no way I was going to accept any argument back.

"You're right. I'm sorry." Y/N whispered and put her head on my shoulder while I carried her to the car.

It wasn't long before we arrived at the emergency room and it was Y/N's turn to be examined. That was good. They took it seriously when a pregnant woman came in with some issues and didn't make her sit in the waiting room for hours at first.

Y/N was taken to a room and hooked up to a machine that monitored the baby's heart rate. Then she was thoroughly examined herself. I was grateful that I was allowed to stay with her. Because sitting in the waiting room I would not have been able to handle it.

Just a half hour later, the doctor came to talk to us about the test results.

"All right Mr. and Mrs. O'Reilly. You were right in thinking it was your blood pressure. The blood pressure was very low. That's not unusual in pregnancy, though, as blood vessels dilate to supply blood and oxygen to the baby. Brief fainting is also common. The dangerous part is usually a resulting fall, but since that was not the case here, there are no consequences to worry about.

However, I would strongly advise you not to lie on your back for long periods of time. The weight of the baby can exert pressure on the Vena Cava and this can lead to circulatory problems. Please keep that in mind. You should drink a lot of water and move regularly to stimulate your blood pressure. Otherwise, prolonged lying or sitting can cause the blood pressure to drop again.

Otherwise, you and the baby are fine. I'll get your papers ready and then you can go home. There's no reason for us to keep you in the hospital over Christmas. I'm sure you'll be very happy about that. I'll be right back," the doctor explained and we both breathed a sigh of relief.

"I'm glad everything is okay with you two," I said softly to Y/N as I took her hand in mine.

"Yeah me too. But I don't think our little one liked the exam. He's been bopping around like crazy." she replied, grinning.

"Really? Is it stronger than usual?" I wanted to know and put my hand on her bump.

"You tell me! Do you feel that? Right here." she spoke, pushing my hand to the right spot.

"Oh my god! I can feel it! Finally. My god, this is amazing. Hey there little man. Daddy is so happy to finally be able to feel you." I said to my son in his mother's womb.

"Awesome, isn't it?" Y/N beamed at me.

"Absolutely awesome. The best Christmas present ever." I replied and kissed my wife with passion. Until I perceived an even stronger kick or punch against my hand.

"Oh wow. Mommy's little boy is jealous already." remarked Y/N laughing.

"Hopefully that will pass with time. I can't stop kissing you," I replied.

A few minutes later the doctor returned with the papers to sign and then we could go home. This Christmas was already very special for me.
