Lauryn is originally from Inistioge, County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. When she was a child, the family moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland to try to escape grinding poverty, but instead met hatred due to their religion. Lauryn left Belfast to pursue a master's in architectural design in London, where she would come to meet Marie Avon just before graduating, starting to work for her firm. The two eventually fell in love despite the circumstances, and Lauryn now calls Marie her girlfriend as well as her caregiver.
Based on her family's background, Lauryn generally keeps her sexuality a secret, as she also does with her little side. She struggles with the disability of stuttering.

While coming from an aristocratic background, Marie, as she prefers to be called, wishes she could live a more simple life outside of the gaze of society. Born in Oxfordshire, she knew she was different growing up. She was forced to marry early by her mother, and was married to Marshall Hawtrey for the 16 years and has two children, Jack and Pippa. The two decided to divorce on good terms.
Marie hires Lauryn as a junior drafting fellow for her architecture firm and had a hard time pushing down her feelings down for her. Eventually they fell in love, despite the age gap of 13 years and her status as Lauryn's boss. Marie, though at first hesitant, was happy to take on the caregiver role for Lauryn, who revealed her little side quite by accident.
