parasite was pretty good. that's what minho concluded when the credits rolled over the screen, at least.

neither of them moved when the movie ended. he opened snapchat and was greeted with the horror that was his face. he tilted his phone so he could see jisung, and found his eyes closed. why did this guy always fall asleep while they hung out? was he that boring?

he supposed jisung deserved some rest for helping him. he didn't dare to move anymore, afraid to wake him up. luckily, he could reach everything he needed just fine from his spot. the tv remote, his earplugs, and of course his phone.

he turned the volume on the tv low and started watching an anime. he sat there for hours, growing more and more tired than he already was, but he didn't want to fall asleep. sleeping would mean nightmares.

after a few hours, the boy behind him moved. 'minho? what time is it?'

'oh you're awake.' he checked his phone. 'it's, uh, 43 past 2.'

'43 past..- a quarter to three? why are you still up?'

'i don't want to fall asleep only to wake you up because i'm moving so much.'

'please sleep, hyung.'

'but-'

'it's fine.'

minho sighed and turned off the tv. it didn't take long for him to doze off.

'minho? wake up.'

minho groaned. 'no.'

'it's half past eleven.' jisung shook his shoulder lightly.

he sighed and turned his head awkwardly, looking at jisung, who was still behind him against the wall.

'aren't you uncomfortable?'

'incredibly.'

'should've woken me up earlier.' he pushed himself up and rubbed his bleary eyes.

'but you were sleeping so peacefully,' jisung pouted.

minho stared at him. he never slept peacefully.

but then, he didn't wake up beaded in sweat. he didn't feel frightened. his lips parted at the realisation.

'what is it?'

'i didn't dream.'

jisung's eyebrows shot up, before smiling brightly. 'that's amazing!'

he nodded, though he didn't smile back. he chewed on his lip. what the hell.

they quickly ate breakfast at jisung's request, before they started studying. they had around two days left before the first exam, and minho still didn't understand anything.

he had to admit, yesterday he was annoyed. he hadn't actually bothered to try and understand when jisung was explaining certain topics.

but today he was desperate, as the exams were getting really close. so he tried to keep his shit together and listen to the younger. jisung spoke clearly and slowly, which helped the case big time. around 3 p.m. he even allowed himself to feel a spark of hope.

hope was dangerous, though.

that aside, they deserved a break. after sitting for a few hours, they thought it would be an excellent idea to spend this break outside. there was no visible sun, but luckily it wasn't very cold.

they strolled through town, kicking rocks on the pavement and talking about their hobbies, and eventually they went to the store and got some things for that evening.

jisung's positive attitude gave minho energy.

in the evening they prepared dinner for minho's father, who was already happy that he didn't have to cook for once. he gave the two boys a thumbs up as he took his first bite.

jisung stayed the night again, but this time they lay down on minho's double bed. the former on the left, the latter on the right.

minho walked through the forest, breathing in the fresh air. the sun was shining, despite the many clouds forming in the sky. there was a lot of wind, though.
the sun slowly disappeared behind the clouds as they became darker. mist rose around him from all sides.
it was quiet.
too quiet.
the birds held their breaths as it grew dark.
a crow screeched behind him, and minho spun around. he didn't see anything.
a breath in his neck, he froze.
no one was there.
he squeezed his eyes shut as he fell to his knees, gripping his head.

he shot up. he was panting and trembling all over. he turned on the lamp on his nightstand and blinked rapidly, realising he was back in his room.

jisung was on the other side of his bed, still sound asleep.

'jisung,' minho whispered. he hated to wake him up for this.

no response.

'jisung,' he said again, louder, more desperate. he tapped his shoulder like crazy.

'jisung.' his voice cracked.

the sleeping boy finally opened his eyes. he stared at his friend, who was shaking like a leaf, and realised what had happened.

'shit minho you okay?' he was sitting next to him in a split second.

he tried to laugh at the stupid question, but it came out more like a whimper. he was staring at the wall, a pained expression on his face.

jisung just wrapped his arms around him tightly, resting his head on his shoulder.

'it's gonna be okay, min. i'm here.'

'it's gonna be okay,' the other whispered. he repeated it a few times, the only thing he was capable of doing. his brain didn't actually manage to process what he was saying.

they were just words.

'c'mon,' jisung murmured. he lay back down on the bed, pulling minho with him. he held him firmly, his head resting against his chest. now he could really feel the tremors going through his body.

at one point, minho's heavy breathing became steady. jisung shut his eyes, somewhat relieved.

he had fallen asleep. right there, in jisung's arms.

their sunday was awfully similar to the day before. their exams would start tomorrow, and their anxiety grew with the minute. the tests were spread over the whole week, though. it wouldn't be over after tomorrow. no, he would have to sit down and study again.

minho noticed something different about jisung. he cocked his head. 'you're tired.' it wasn't even a question.

jisung looked up from his books and rubbed his face with his hands. 'yeah, a little.'

guilt washed over him. 'i'm sorry for waking you up.'

'no,' he smiled. 'that's not it.'

minho stared at him. jisung laughed quietly, a little embarrassed. 'my social battery ran out, i guess.'

so, that afternoon, minho insisted they quit studying early.

'why? we're doing so well.'

'you need to rest, before you sleep through the exam tomorrow.'

jisung narrowed his eyes, but he couldn't argue with that. 'fine,' he said eventually.

minho tried studying some more after he left, but his mind kept wandering off to his dreams, and the apparently new lack of them.

before he knew it, it was monday morning, and his alarm went off.
